Building custom pc for the first time need help!

Are these parts all compatible with each other?Processor: i7 2700k Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB. RAM: 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3 PC3 10600 1333MHz. Motherboard: Gigabyte GA 990XA UD3 AM3+. Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM SATA 6Gbs 64MB Cache. Power Supply: Alpine 700W Quiet Silent PSU. Operating system: windows 7 home premium 64bit If anything isn't compatible please suggest a suitable replacement with reason or if you thinkSomething will work better instead I am trying to build a gaming pc so yeah cheers guys and girls! :) Edited August 28, 2012 by Hakangaroo

2 problems;

 

Your Motherboard of choice is AMD and your Processor is Intel. So no, they will not work.

You only need 8GB RAM for gaming, maximum. Go for 2x4GB

 

 

Could you specify which you prefer for us, AMD or Intel?

Intel are overall better, but for gaming you won't know the difference.

 

Swap the i7 2700k for a FX6100 Bulldozer.

 

OR

 

Swap the Gigabyte GA 990XA UD3 AM3+ for Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H Socket 1155

 

Your Graphics card of choice is average to good.

 

If you get a FX6100 AND Gigabyte GA 990XA UD3 AM3+, use the saved money and buy a GTX 660 (new release, give it a few weeks so they settle in price and iron out problems)

OR

Spend more on the i7 2700k AND Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H Socket 1155 and stick with the 6870.
