Guest mark Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I ordered my new Dell laptop with Windows XP Professional, and one of the features I particularly liked was the Windows Search feature (it came with Version 3.x - I can't remember the exact version) as it was fast and remarkably accurate. However, the first time I took my laptop and my external hard drive on the road with me, Windows Search quit working. A Dell tech suggested I uninstall and the reinstall version 4.0, which I did. It says it's there, and it says it has indexed all the files on the computer, but any time I try to search anything it just tells me "Nothing found in All Locations for query ...". Any suggestions?
Guest Ronaldo Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Re: Windows Search 4.0 not working I also installed Search 4.0 and didn't like it... it isn't fast or accurate at all and to my taste the interface is even worse than the search appication included in Windows XP, so I searched for third party alternatives and settled for "Copernic Desktop Search" which is way more advanced, very fast and accurate.. plus it even finds by text inside files.. See if you like it. http://www.copernic.com/ ------------------------------------ "mark" <mark@discussions.microsoft.com> escribió en el mensaje news:5A0C3BE6-AB7B-4E9F-AAEE-634681984BF0@microsoft.com... >I ordered my new Dell laptop with Windows XP Professional, and one of the > features I particularly liked was the Windows Search feature (it came with > Version 3.x - I can't remember the exact version) as it was fast and > remarkably accurate. Any suggestions? I have tried Windows Desktop Search and did not like the fact it slows down my PC. I have uninstalled it from Add/remove Programs.
