zakitc Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Hello All, I am building a PC for my son's birthday. Using Asus M4A78LT-M LE motherboard, AMD Phenom Bulldozer AM3 processor, 500W power supply, no dedicated graphics card, 4gb Kingston one slot RAM. And using old Packard Bell case I found on the street. Everything is set to go but it isn't. When pressing power switch - all fans are spinning, power indication diode on motherboard is lit, so there is power to motherboard. Keyboard and mouse flashes so they are being more or less recognized. At beginning I though that the power supply was dodgy because it has been removed from old machine long time ago. Bought a new one - still nothing, then though maybe the case power switch is faulty as that case could be standing in the rain and get water contaminated. Bought a new switch - still nothing. Now my only conclusion is - faulty motherboard. Because when I connecting HDD led, Power led they are not working - not on old switch, not on new switch. I have tried different combination, but all the markings on power switch is quite straight forward, so don't think that is the case. So, before go for a new motherboard, maybe someone know any way how to make sure that it is really a motherboard? Ah! and there is no any post sounds when PC is switched on. And i have also changed BIOS battery. Help please?? Quote
KenB Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS I was thinking m/board when I was reading your post. Do you get any POST beeps when you switch on ? ( assuming that there is an internal speaker ? ) Take a look here and follow the tutorial: http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=172 If there is no internal speaker follow the process anyway. The internal fans should spin and the hard drive should be active. [ just because there is an LED lit on the m/board and fans spin this does not mean that the PSU / m/board are good to go ] Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! zakitc Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 There is no POST beeps, but I don't have a speaker either, so..... Thank you for answer though Quote

zakitc Posted September 11, 2012 Author Posted September 11, 2012 Tried the link, and tried other power supply - nothing, also bought one of the small devices for checking psu's - all green lights where on :( so conclusion is - faulty motherboard. Bought a new motherboard. will get it and try it. Wierd - this isn't the first pc I am puttting together, but never happened anything like this.... Thank you for help and advice. Quote
KenB Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Did you try the link that explained about no POST beeps ? You will need to re-install the OS unless the new m/b is exactly the same as the old one. zakitc Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 yep, I did. Still nothing. About OS - I don't have one. It is completely new PC, so I didn't get that far. Quote
KenB Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 When you fitted the m/board did you use the stand-offs ? Just to be sure - unscrew the m/board and sit it on a piece of card to insulate it from the case. Switch on Do you still get the same problem ? Are all of the components new ? ( apart from the case - not sure why you are using one that was dumped in the street ?? ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
