Guest Scott Townsend Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 I have the Server (Win2008) setup for Shadow Copies. I can see in the Properties of the volume that there are 2 a day for the past 2 weeks. Though when I go to folder where stuff has changed, there are no previous versions. The Drive that has all of the Shadow Copy Data on it has 207GB on it, so there is something there... How can I see the Shadow Copy files?

How are you looking at the folder? Look at \\server\share\folder across the network or \\server\drive$ Don't look at it directly in Explorer.
Guest George Yin Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 RE: Cant see my Shadow Copies? Hello, In Windows Server 2008, you don't need to use the network path to access the previous versions. I would firstly double check how you found that you couldn't get the previous versions. Did you do this as follow? Right-click a volume and click Properties. Switch to the Shadow Copies tab, and click Enable button for a specified volume. Click OK. Then in a folder in this volume, create a new file. Then, right-click this folder and click Properties. On the Previous Versions tab, under "Folder versions:", it is blank or it shows "There are no previous versions available"? If this is the case, I would like to suggest that you take a look the following KB article. The root cause may be that "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" is not bound to the correct network connection. "Folder versions" list is blank, or you receive a message on Windows Vista: "There are no previous versions available" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937862 Sincerely, George Yin Microsoft Online Support Microsoft Global Technical Support Center Get Secure! - http://www.microsoft.com/security ===================================================== When responding to posts, please "Reply to Group" via your newsreader so that others may learn and benefit from your issue. ===================================================== This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
Guest Scott Townsend Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Re: Cant see my Shadow Copies? My E:\ Drive on my File server (Win2008) has Shadow Copies enabled. The Shadow Copies are stored on G:\ Drive, 2 a Day since the 14th There are over 100 shares on the Volume, each has the Shadow Copy Check mark on them I've Tried to see the files from Vista PC via \\server\share\folder 2nd Vista PC via \\server\share\folder Local Server via \\server\share\folder Local Server via e:\folder 2nd 2008 Server via \\server\share\folder All of which were able to see Volume shadow copies the day after it was setup. I have not checked it since. File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks check box is checked for everyone.
