515mhz Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I have a very strange problem i brought a sony vaio with vista back 07/08 i think lol and after several year's of using and ruining it became very slow on start up on average about a 40min wait before anything could be opened n used and very genrally ruined realy. Then being a complete pc noob i looking in way's of fixing it was about to bin it then looked in to factory resets and wiping the hard drive of all but the important thing's i then did a factory reset bringing everything on board back as it was when i brought it,it even had the 60days free norton hehe. I have since updated using windows updater every update needed to bring it back up to date to now (05/09/12 now up to date and downloaded service pack 2 and the newest internet explorer and such alike. now to the point (sorry) Whenever this laptop is now on the internet connection for everyone in the home slow's right down to unbearable speed's yet back when it was a fine working pc the first time around everything was fine. Now here's what make's it strange i have actually turned off the wireless on the laptop and it's still effect the internet speed not till the laptop is on sleep mode or off is everything fine again.I'v tried as i said turning the laptop's wireless off i have even gone into device management and turned my wireless, lan, pci eveything related to the internet wireless there off and somehow the speed is still effected.....any idea's??? because i haven't a clue i am a complete noob so you'll have excuse some part's of this post hehe. KenB Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS This is a strange one !! If your laptop is on - all other wireless machines slow down ...........is this correct ? If you connect one of the other machines by cable to the router does it slow down too ? Use this speed test and test one of the other machines with your machine on and off. Let us know the results. http://www.speedtest.net/ Wait for the "Begin Test" to appear. How many other machines are connected to the router ? Switch the router off - wait 30 seconds - switch it on again. Try the speedtest again. KenB Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Hi There is not a great difference between 1.93 Mb/s and 1.64Mb/s What does your ISP suggest that you should be receiving ( max ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! KenB Posted September 6, 2012 Posted September 6, 2012 If the drop is only 0.29 Mb/s this is not worth worrying about. If you can find out what the download speed should be this would help. Out of interest re your slow startup... Download and run MBAM from here. ( click on Products ....you want the free version ) http://www.malwarebytes.org/ It will produce a log when the scan is complete. Copy this and post it here please.
