Guest Summer1 Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Sto Hiya :) Why is there a charge associated with online Windows XP Support since it is still part of the 'acfive life cycle of products?' Also, how do I remove 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer?' If that is not possible, how do I make' FastStone Picture Viewer' my default viewer? Regards

Pick the extensions you want associated with Faststone.

Guest Summer1 Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Re: Paid Online Support Only? I figured out how to make 'FastStone' my default image viewer without removing Windows Picture Viewer and Fax. What I still do no understand is why there is a charge associated with online Windows XP, IE 7, and Word 2000 Support since they are still part of the 'active life cycle of products? Guest Mick Murphy Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Re: Paid Online Support Only? When you buy XP, it normally comes pre-installed on your computer. Companies like Dell, HP, Acer, etc. They buy cheap licences from MS, in return they have to supply ALL hardware and Software Support. If you had retail disk XP, it is still only 3 or 6 months free support from Microsoft. -- Mad Mike "Summer1" wrote: > I figured out how to make 'FastStone' my default image viewer without > removing Windows Picture Viewer and Fax. > > What I still do no understand is why there is a charge associated with > online Windows XP, IE 7, and Word 2000 Support since they are still part of > the 'active life cycle of products? > > "Summer1" wrote: > > > > > Hiya: > > > > Why is there a charge associated with online Windows XP Support since it is > > still part of the 'acfive life cycle of products?' > > > > How do I 'remove' Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or is that not possible? > > > > "Big_Al" wrote: > > > > > Summer1 wrote: > > > > Hiya :) > > > > > > > > Why is there a charge associated with online Windows XP Support since it is > > > > still part of the 'acfive life cycle of products?' > > > > > > > > Also, how do I remove 'Windows Picture and Fax Viewer?' Guest PA Bear [MS MVP] Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Re: Paid Online Support Only? If you didn't purchase WinXP (full retail version) and install it on your computer, support from MS is not free. If WinXP came preinstalled on your machine, the OEM is the default support source. Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for Windows XP, but only for Service Pack 3 (SP3), until 14 Apr-09. Chat and e-mail support is available only in the United States and Canada. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=1173 | select "Windows XP" then select "Windows XP Service Pack 3" -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Summer1 wrote: > Why is there a charge associated with online Windows XP Support since it > is > still part of the 'acfive life cycle of products?'...
