JL2008 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 My friend got a brand new PC from his friend. His friend owed him a lot of money. So he paid him back by buying a Dell Optiplex 790. The first time my friend turned the PC on, Windows 7 loaded up. He was entering the PC name. He then got a black screen that said there was an hardware problem. Since then: Windows wont load. The screen says that no hard drive was found and to check the cable. BIOS doesnt see the drive either. I ran a test(Hard drive, Video card, Memory). Only the hard drive failed. I checkd the hard drive. It is plugged good. When we turn the PC on, we hear a clicking noise. Any ideas? Quote
maynardvdm Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Hi If the clicking sound is coming from the hard drive then you need to replace the hard drive and reload the software. KenB Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 As this is a new PC it needs to be returned and a replacement provided. A clicking hard drive is rare with a new system - but not unheard of. [The drive is dead or dying] Being the cynic that I am - is your friend SURE that this system is new? Did it come boxed? Does he have a receipt from the store/shop ? JL2008 Posted September 8, 2012 Author Posted September 8, 2012 Dell is going to send a new hd. I'm all set. Thanks to everyone who responded. Quote
KenB Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Dell is going to send a new hd. You will need to reinstall the OS. If you have data on the other drive it may be possible to access it with a HDD to USB adapter.
