Hi I am havig a probelm with step-dads laptop. He got a htc evo hotspot phone- it says it is connected to his HP laptop but we can't get the internet to work, we get a DNS server error. His laptop is a HP Pavillion with windows vista. The phone does connect with my laptop (a newer HP) and the internet works. His comp will also connect and work with my wifi. We have been at this for over 8 hours and would love any help we can get- both HP and Boost (the phone company) can't help us. Thank You:confused:

Hi and welcome to ExTS

You will have to forgive my ignorance re: hotspot phones ...............my mobile ( cell ) doesn't even take photos !!

I found this: ( don't know if it is relevant - let me know )

Are you using the same software ? [ Sprint Hotspot ]

You say the phone connects with your laptop.

Is this in the same location - using the same router ?

If the location is different - does your laptop connect wirelessly using your step-dad's router ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

KenB.BT has hotspots all over the UK.

This means you can sit in a cafe and logon to BT wifi hotspots. It does come under fare usage and get 10,000 free minutes.BUT they do run out quickly.

My Facebook had issues connecting to the internet a few days ago.I tried to logon on to BT wifi hotspots.BUT I couldnt, first I had to logon to my BT wireless router then I got a connection so I could set up BT WIFI/BT Fon.

You need to scan for wireless/wifi networks in your area.Your BT router also acts as a Wifi hotspot. You can either logon to the router and use that to connect your laptop or phone or you can use it as a Wifi hotspot there is a diffrence.Once you have scanned for a wifi hotspot either by laptop or phone logon onto it.However you need a little app from your broad band provider to logon to Wifi hot spots.

I had to keep reading that to see if it made any sense...

It does save money as many ISP if you buy a cheaper package you have a data usage allowance.Once this runs out they start to slam you with a nice bigger bill..

Depending on what company you are with may also play a part in how you connect. My mobile is with vodafone yet I can still get BT wifi but had to download the BT wifi app. Most modern phones can connect to another wifi company.

KenB its not has difficult as it sounds.
