mcd840 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 now that i know which drivers i need i want to do a complete re-install of my computer because of how much messing about i have done with it! if you get me...i can insert the windows disk and it prompts me with options on what to do, is this the best way to do it or am i better to completely "format" the hard drive as in "wipe it clean" as if the hard drives brand new and just about to be connected to the computer. if so how do i go about doing this thanks guys Quote
KenB Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 If you are re-installing the best option is to format then install. XP has a Repair Install option that you may wish to try. Using this retains your installed software / files / photos etc. see here If you have data on the drive that you need - back this up first. terry0912 Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Put the XP CD in the drive and re-boot the system, as it start up press the key that enables you to change boot up (may be ESC or an F key). Set to boot from CD and let it run. When it gets to the BLUE screen ' Terms and Conditions', press F8 then ESC. This will take you the advanced mode. Select the drive you want to format, when this is done select install XP, just follow and change any sections as you go along. Takes approx 50 minutes. Quote
