domdadomdom Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I've been looking on custom build sites to buy a new pc for music production only, using Cubase 5 and various vst synths and effects so need a fairly powerful machine. I will not be connecting to the internet or anything. But need usb points. I've been looking at the set up below and wanted to know if its good for the job? I have a Emu 0404 pci soundcard already which I will fit. I also already have keyboard and monitor and Windows 7 comes installed on the pc. Any advice please? :) £368.99 NEW! Vr5fx Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I personally don't have any experience with music production but I have heard that they are resource hogs (similar to gaming, minus the graphics). If given the option I would change to an i5 processor, up the RAM to 8 GB (or even upgrade it later if needed), and finally it doesn't say the speed of your hard drive (5400/7200), faster the speed the faster files get located, meaning quicker response times. I'm sure another member will be able to give more information soon. Plastic Nev Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I can only echo exactly what Vr5fx has said as sequencer software can be a hog if handling a lot of individual tracks at once, so you need the fast processor and RAM to cut latency down as much as possible. Not used Cubase myself so can't say, but once installed see if there is an option to get at and reduce the buffers where possible too, nothing worse than hitting a key, say a C sharp, and then waiting a part second for the sound.
