Hi,

I have just moved to an area where I cannot get Virgin Media fibreoptic services. As I was still within my 12 month contract with Virgin, I had to agree to keeping some of their services, or pay a hefty fine.

So I took out a contract with Sky TV but my broadband and phone is from Virgin (router is from Virgin too).

We now have a terrible connection. During weekends, 6-8am and after 4pm the service is virtually impossible to access. (I have not been able to connect to the internet or have been thrown out 10 times in the past 24 hours).

I downloaded a broadband checker and there are times when the service is 0.2mb or less. (It is supposed to be at least 10mb). I live less than one mile frm the nearest telephone exchange.

Virgin suggested that I go and buy a new cable to plug into the ASDN socket, to see if the old one is faulty. Failing that, they have suggested that I plug the ethernet cable into the modem and the laptop, rather than use it as a wireless service (!). I have complained but am really frustrated.

Can anyone advise on what may be happening. We don't download very much and are not accessing any restricted websites.

Thanks:(

Hi

Do you pay BT for the line rental or does Virgin take care of this?

Either way - you need to ask for a line check to your property.

Use this speed check and record the download / upload speed.

Make a note of the time and date.

You need about 6 readings throughout the day.

Do you have filters on all devices ( including Sky ) fitted to phone sockets ?

I know in your fibre-optic connection the filter may be built into the box on the wall - you could overlook the need for a filter in the new property.

Is the connection good if you are wired direct to the router via an ethernet cable ?

You need to record speedtest results with this too.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
