Hi,

Does anyone know if Windows 8 will have options for the display language. After a recent problem with my computer, I've decided to get a new one but I'm restricted to certain brands if I buy in Germany because of the language options (my German is not up to computers).

Unless Microsoft has made a drastic change of policy you should have no problem selecting a different language as well as input language from your keyboard. That being said, it may be that the computer manufacturer may install some of its own software that may not have the option to change language and things like your splash screen may appear in the language restricted by the manufacturer.

As for windows itself there should be no problem.

Just as an aside, in my humble opinion Windows 8 is more suited to tablets and touchscreen computers. If it were me I would stick to Windows 7.

Windows 8 language.

HI BeeCeeBee,

I don't get this because when I look at notebooks, I always ask can I get it in English, and often get the reply no. When I speak to people they often say that I can set up any computer in English. I buy computers with the OS ready installed, is this why I don't get an English option? My Microsoft Word Trial Pack did not give me the option of an English version.

Apple does, if you can afford it. ASUS, that I have does, and apparently Dell does. What's the difference.

I will be looking at different brands for a new notebook.

That is because you set your language for windows in the control panel and not the individual program. Just look in Region and Language in the control panel (in Windows 7) I think it may be captioned slightly different in XP and/or vista. You set your language there and that will carry over to your Office products.

But again, I assume that if you buy a computer in Germany that the splash screen will be in German. I am pretty sure that Toshiba allows you to set all their software to a specific language.

On a new computer windows will ask you your language preference when you first log on and use a setup wizard.
