Getting 0000000124 blue screen error. Done numerous superantispyware checks; malwarebyte checks. Wondering if the laptop may be too hot would this be a factor? I spray pressurised air on the fan every now and then and have a fan which I run a few hours a day when I think its too hot. Have not changed any of the hardware ever.

Hi and welcome.

Some reasons for Blue Screens

New hardware - Software installed.

Device driver - Video driver - corrupted - faulty.

Faulty Ram - Overheating - Dying hard drive etc.

Either post the Minidump files.

Look in c:\windows\minidump

ZIP them and attach them to your next post.

Right-click the minidump file, select Send To.

Then select Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Windows will compress the file and then save the new zipped file in the same location.

Or download BlueScreenView

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

Download link at the bottom of the page.

Download > Install.

Once it has scanned > Click on Edit > Select All > File > Save Selected Item

It will open in Notepad - or save to Notepad > Copy > Paste.

Then Post the last 5 minidump files

Check this link first

Check for Overheating.

Looks like the following driver has caused you the blue screen of death - halmacpi.dll

boot into safe mode and remove the driver, that should resolve the issue I believe

Posted

Caused By Driver : halmacpi.dll

Not telling us much - a Windows hidden file.

Also where the blue screen error is reported, is not necessarily where it first started and may not be the cause.

Run a Mem Test.

http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Download the ISO file from one of the links above to your desktop.

Then burn the ISO to a Cd.

Start the Pc using the Cd and run the memory test overnight or for at least 8 passes.

It is best to run a full scan on individual Ram sticks if you can.

Or run the test but if any errors are shown - then remove all sticks of Ram and test each Ram stick one at a time.

-----

You can also run the Mem test from a USB stick

http://www.memtest.org/#downiso

Scroll down to Download (Pre-built & ISOs)

Download -Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7) *NEW!*

------

Check Device Manager - a driver may need updating.

Click the + sign against all entries to expand what is listed.

Look for exclamtion marks.

How to access Device Manager.

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm

It is always best to update from the manufacturers website - if any drivers are needed.

--------

Run System File Checker

SFC /SCANNOW

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Did you check for overheating?

When are you getting the Blue Screens - at startup - running programs - games etc?

Do Not remove or attempt to remove halmacpi.dll file.

Just got another bsod with another driver error which may help you:

Im trying something out I get the blue screens at varies places, but I always have a zynga game open in one of my tabs. I use chrome but yesterday I tried just opening firefox and just opening the zynga game. I got BSOD within a minute. Im going to try and not open the game at all for a couple of days will post with results. If I do get it I will note when it happens. It only happens when Im doing something on the pc - but I havent kept rigid notes exactly when it happens except for yesterday when I started this experiment. Oh and nothing needs updating in device manager. I suspect this may be software but what exactly I have no idea - flash needs updating? I have no idea what zynga people do to design their games but every single one Ive played sucks recources dry.

Playing games is both Ram and Graphic card intensive.

Uses a lot of both.

How much Ram [memory] do you have installed?

A MemTest on each stick of Ram, will be one of your next best moves.

See post # 5.

Yeah maybe it crashed again this arvo and I didnt have any games on. Trying to avoid leaving the machine on all night as it gets hot. I got a laptop so taking out memory is a non starter.

Hi, original memory modules can sometimes be removed, on older laptops maybe not, but in most cases they can be added to as there is usually extra memory slots available.

Can you tell us please the make and model of your laptop, we can then hopefully find enough information about whether existing memory can be removed and how, also how much extra can be added.

Also if you are not sure about the amount and type of RAM Memory you have now, there is a useful free program that can find that information for you, and therefore us too. It is called Speccy, from and made by Piriform, and can be downloaded from here=

http://www.piriform.com/speccy

Install it, open it, and it will list everything of your hardware, and also the temperatures.

Please let us know what it finds regarding how much RAM memory you already have, and also quite importantly, the temperatures shown, especially after the laptop has been running for a while.

How come with the fan on - I have a big independent fan running temps are still 84-87 and yet the laptop feels cool?

Posted

Hi, although there is an external fan, the insides could be clogged with dust. Even though laptops can and quite often run a little hotter than a desktop, the 91 degrees shown is too high for the processor, ask it to do any work and it will go into shut down.

I think that your laptop is now at the stage where it needs to be stripped down and cleaned. Not something we recommend with laptops unless to extremely competent people, so bearing that in mind unless you have experience of dismantling technical equipment, I suggest taking it to a repair shop with laptop expertise.
