SwellestMonster Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody had any experience with wireless network dropping when trying to download via a client... The example I have most recently is trying to patch Guild Wars 2 my wireless connection instantly drops when the client loads, I then have to reset the wireless adapter a few times and the network comes back up and works fine again for everything but larger downloads. My wireless network adapter is a Belkin F6D4050 USB adapter due to my wireless connection having its Router quite far away from where my computer is placed. Any other information needed in trying to sort this issue?, any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers guys. Quote
KenB Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS I know there were d/l limits built into IE6 / 7 The limits were 2GB for IE6 and 4GB for IE7 I doubt that this would cause your connection to drop. Which browser are you using ? What is the speed of your connection? http://www.speedtest.net/ Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! SwellestMonster Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Hi Ken thanks for the response The browser i tend to use is Mozilla but the connection drop doesn't really happen when using the browser only when using an update client for example Steam or GW2. I have tried shutting down my firewall to see if that was causing any issues but it hasn't worked. http://speedtest.net/result/2205655206.png the speedtest is pretty poor but i live in a rural area and my connection itself is quite good considering. Seems like a pretty unusual problem to me, i haven't been able to find any info on stopping this from happening. Cheers again mate. Quote

KenB Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 its a BT business network Is this a company network that you are accessing ? If so it could be a setting created by the IT Techs to stop large downloads. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! SwellestMonster Posted September 27, 2012 Author Posted September 27, 2012 Its the business network for the pub i live in. There are no IT techs to speak of so unless these settings were created when the network was set up i don't think there would of been any changed. Quote

KenB Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I cannot think, from what you have said, why this should happen. Somebody else here may be able to jump in with an idea or two. I will see what I can dig up in the mean time. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! BeeCeeBee Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Somebody else here may be able to jump in with an idea or two. That is all this is, an idea. How long ago was this network set up? Is it ald enough that the router is wireless b/g rather than N? If that is the case it may be effecting download speed as welll as range. If you can give us the make and model number of the router that may give us a clue. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
