Hello everyone. Our system is Windows XP The printer installed on our laptop is the Canon PIXMA ip2200, but we want to install our HP Deskjet D2400 printer, (which was installed on our Tower system,) the model No. being printed on the installation CD, but on the printer case it has HP Deskjet D2460? Anyway that wasn't a problem when we installed the printer to our "tower system" also Windows XP. But now we have abandoned the tower & just using the laptop, so we are trying to install the HP printer which we prefer to the Canon, reasons of which are not relevant. But when we tried to install the HP is was a no-go, even though the Canon was fully disconected. So we figure that the Canon needs to be un-installed first, but the problem with that, is that we don't have a CD for re-installing the Canon if the HP is still not accepted. The first attempt at installing the HP seemed to be progressing ok as the "wizard" appeared on screen, with the "pages flitting across from one do-dah to the folder, but then it said the installation can't be found. Any advice would be much appreciated. We are fairly ok with our PC, but we are easily blinded with tecky stuff.

Thanks BeeJay

Hi and welcome to ExTS

You should not need to uninstall the Canon software to add the HP.

You can have 2 or more installed at the same time.

Disconnect the Canon lead from the pc.

Do not connect the HP printer.

Put the CD in the drive and you should be prompted when to connect the lead.

Let us know what happens at this point.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

Hi KenB. Thanks for the welcome & your reply.

Done as you suggested, inserting the CD, it could be heard running for a short while, then it stopped with nothing showing on the desktop screen!

That's correct, you have had your years allocation of holiday's already Ken

Joking aside though, providing you treat the laptop and both printers with care, and no sudden movement that might result in the equipment suffering a hard knock or jolt, then reconnection once you are where your going all should be OK.
