tismehi Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 hp 610 laptop. win 7 (32), 120gb hdd, centrino, 2gb ram. recently moved to new work place digs. house has virgin media and I connect ok on my iphone and tablet. however when I select connections icon on my laptop, it will not even allow me to enter any password. there must be a lock somewhere I do not know. or perhaps it's something else. I really need my laptop connected for music, syncing phone etc. Quote
KenB Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Hi There should be an icon ( bottom right of screen ) that looks like 2 monitors. If you right click on this > Connect to a Network You should be able to see your Virgin Network ................can you ? If you can click on the network and you should then be asked for the Network Key ( password ) I assume that the workplace have given you the Network Key ? BeeCeeBee Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 however when I select connections icon on my laptop, it will not even allow me to enter any password. Does that mean that you can see your network but not enter a key or not see your network at all. The key and network name (SSID) you use for your home ISP is not the same as one that you would use at your place of work. Is this your own laptop or your employer's? When at work do you connect by cable or wireless? In Windows 7 have you looked in your "Network and Sharing Center" at the adapter settings (Change Adapter Settings in the left column) to see if your wireless network is enabled? Have you tried connecting using an ethernet cable? Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
