I had my ridge tiles reseated and as a result I have a line of white mortar - the guys are supposed to be coming back to sort it but from what I have read the only effective method involves dilute acid and this, according to some sources, is not recommended.

As you say - it will weather away eventually.

OK then who is going to go buy some Meccano next?

Talking of which, as a project for some odd reason that I forget which, a place called Little Lever outside Manchester, they have built a bridge over an old canal using giant sized Meccano. Quite impressive it is too.

Will post pictures when I find them.

Edit, better still a link to an article in the Metro:-

Are you re-living your mis-spent youth ?

Pretty much. Technic in general has advanced somewhat over the past few years with new motors, gearing ect. So my first step is to lean how to make a 4 or 5 speed gear box.

I'm slowly re-learning techniques. As well, now there won't be greasy prints on the pieces or teeth marks, or even missing pieces. :D

When I get a chance I will get a pic of what I have. :)

Off to work now.

Hi Nev

I worked at Meccano for 4 years in my 20's - I was a toolmaker.

The Hornby trains were originally made there and although they had been sold off when I arrived the big room that the girls used to assemble Dinky Toy cars in was still called "The Train Room".

The writing was on the wall even when I was there.

The whole building is gone now - flattened.

Tires and mower

My 2008 Impala had a tire losing pressure. The tires on it were nearing end of life but I only meant to repair the tire. After they showed me my tires while on the lift I was amazed at how bad they were. I knew I needed tires when I bought the car but had no idea they were that bad.

I used to work for a major rubber company but after reviewing the facts and weighing the costs I went with these from a competitor. Michelin Defender At 90,000 miles it should be some time before I need to buy again.

After fighting my old Snapper mower for years I finally gave up and bought a new one. My old riding mower as seen in the movie Forrest Gump still works but I bought a new push-self propelled mower that mulches or bags It is the Snapper Ninja series which at $519.00 is a good deal for the quality.

This is turning into an expensive year but for the last 25 years I put off so much and it is time to catch up on things. I limped by and made my money work for me but it's time to spend some of the profits.

In another month I'm getting top of the line designer windows. Triple pane, low E, argon filled, wood windows with metal clad exteriors with interior blinds between the panes. I've seen the rest and these are the best. Although I refinished the interior wood 25 years ago and it still looks good the windows themselves are the original single hung windows and are 60 years old. It is time.

I'll post pics of the old and the new Pella windows when it's done.

Next fall I will rip out carpet and go back to newly refinished original solid oak wood floors in the bedrooms and main room. I might be out of the house and offline while that is done.

I have Charcot foot in both feet

I am sorry to hear that.

Are the boots permanent - is the condition degenerative ?

I know a couple of people who have diabetes but your condition must be fairly extreme ?

I hope it isn't too uncomfortable for you.

PS4 :o

Well, I didn't physically purchase it, only pre-ordered, but still. I'm so excited!

Probably the best choice for next gen.

I've been away for a week or so. Bought myself a RC car. So far getting spares is getting close to the original cost. And that was a lot of dollar.

I need a way to silence the PSU fan on my old XP machine without buying a PSU with either no fan or a quieter model. I guess at the end it will be disconnect the fan, or worse, stuff a used sock in the vent. The atmosphere may get a bit ripe knowing my feet and socks, but it just might shut it up.

Could you not swap the fan? They are usually standard sizes, so you'll just need to cut the wires and re-attach with a different fan.

Just bought a new Apple keyboard for my windows PC ... I just need to find out how to re-map (if that's the right phrase) a couple of keys.

I thought that was all until I started the machine today while there was a floppy in the drive and the "press any key to start" doesn't work.

I realise I could solve it by changing the boot order.

Big difference and made such an improvement to your house.

I like that piece of furniture at the 2.24 mark.

Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
