Hi,

I've been researching to see if anyone has had similar problems to me and think I found someone with close to an identical issue.

http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/13685-having-blue-screen-problem

I have tried following the instructions you suggested:

Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc ............ENTER

-> there were no exclamation marks or red crosses

System restore

-> no restore points

The laptop is a Dell Vostro 3750. Windows 7.

So like the other thread there was a previous problem, I thought I had got rid of it, ran the malware bytes scan which picked up the two items. It told me it deletd them but needed to restart the PC where I then get the same error message.

As I said I tried the things you advised to the other poster which brought me no luck, then it was late so I turned it off and left it till today. Thought I would start a thread on here and get my own help :)

Strange thing is, it turned on OK (ish). I didn't do safe mode. Just wanted to see if the error codes were the same or not. Before I had the option to log in a black screen came up with some text:

"

After this I logged on as usual. Before the home screen loaded I got the following warning:

box subject wasRunDLL

"

There was a problem starting

C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes'Anti-Malware\cleanup.dll

The specific module could not be found

"

I click OK as nothing else to do and awaited my blue screen. Nothing happened. It seemed to be loading up everything as usual, my AVG bar on the side of the page, etc. I tried to see if I could go on the internet as it said I wasn't connected. It won't let me, but able to write this on home computer with internet access no problem. I wasn't sure what else I could do so continued to write this post, and when I next looked at the screen it says:

box subject is Microsoft Windows

"

You must restart your computer to apply these changes.

Before restarting, save any open files and close all programs.

"

Restart now or restart later.

I haven't clicked anything yet, as wanted to await your feedback. Thought it may be easier to check things while I'm on the normal mode rather than safe mode.

I'm not 100% sure what the last thing I tried on Thursday night was. Not sure if it was the last known good configuration or not...

I'm not the best at fixing computers so please be patient with me :) Will try my best!

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

First off, please open if you can Malwarebytes, click on the "Logs" tab, then open the last log you did and copy and paste that here.

One of our malware experts will be here soon to carry on from there.

Hi Nev,

I did a very silly thing and deleted MalwareBytes thinking it was the problem after I first saw the error message. Not sure how I can re-install without internet?

if you can run another scan and post that log , I then think we'll leave the security guys to take a look

Hello, gunner8.

Please use your flash drive to copy the programs to the computer with no internet, and to bring the log files back to attach in your reply.

Step 1

Next, please download ComboFix from one of these locations:

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop as etavaresCF.exe

  •
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. (Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive.)

  • Double click on etavaresCF.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/RcAuto1.gif

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/whatnext.png

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply, along with any symptoms that are present after it runs.

Note: After running Combofix, you may receive an error about "illegal operation on a registry key that has been marked for deletion." If you receive this error, please reboot and it should disappear.

Step 2

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.

  • Make sure the following options are checked:
    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center
    • Windows Update

    [*]Press "Scan".

[*]It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.

[*]Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Hi gunner8,

Nothing major in the log, although I can see you have issues with the LAN. Are you trying wired networking or wireless?

Download http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=7183&file=15&evp=d487f47a4ec64ed8e3f942b034a8b48c (Complete Internet Repair) and save it to your desktop. Double-click to run it. Tick all the boxes by clicking on it. Then press Go!. Let it run, then reboot. Is your internet working now?

Hi etavares,

When I turn on my computer I still get the same Windows security alert about Dell Datasafe:

I ren the complete Internet Repair and it reboot automatically. No difference. Results below:

Hi,

Do you use the Dell Datasafe Online backup? If so you'll want to allow that. Have you been ignoring it, denying it or allowing it?

A bunch of questions for you to answer:

- Do you have any other computers connected to this network? (Or phones?) Can they access the network?

- Are you trying to connect via wired or wireless networking?

- Do you have your Windows CD handy for this computer?

I have it on my laptop, don't use it as such but have allowed it.

Yep have other laptops and phones all connected fine.

It's wireless.

Nope, don't have a Windows CD I'm afraid.

OK, good to know. Let's dig in a bit.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:

  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Devices

Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

I was putting the mouse over some of the icons on the bottom and for one of them it came up as:

"Intel My WiFi Technoogy: Adapter not found"

When I open it there are not many things to click on.

Options doesn't open nor does profiles. I assume because below this it says "No supported Intel wireless network adapter was found"

Will run this latest scan now and post results.

Interesting. It shows you're connected to your local network. Do you have a network cable? I'd like to isolate this to the driver/device vs. a global network setting. Plug your computer directly into the router or model with a LAN cable...wait a minute, then try to access the internet. Do you have internet connectivity that way?

Didn't seem to work when plugged straight in either. It shows the same symbol when it is not connected or plugged in, even when connected to the network or has the internet cable plugged in the back.

We already reset winsock so that will not help. Looking at the mini toolbox, it doesn't appear that your DNS is properly configured. Please follow these instructions to use Google's public DNS:

https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

Let me know if you can access the internet after that.
