freccle Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 I have a Aspire one ZG5 that has a and whilst it connects when I’m away relatively easily, I just CAN’T get it to connect wirelessly at home, yet everything else connects to my router without a problem. The router is a Belkin N Wireless model FSD 8638 – 4 –V2. The netbook see the wifi network, I put in the password and it seems to connect – in fact it says connected, with excellent strength yet it just won’t connect to the internet. If I try to send and receive message via live mail I get the error message: The host 'pop.tiscali.co.uk' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: '1 TISCALI', Server: 'pop.tiscali.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D If I try to connect to a browser (any one) I get the message “no internet connection” When I look at the connection status it will show something like 75 packets sent, 10 received. The internal wifi modem is Atheros Ar5007eg Wireless Network and the netbook is running WINDOWS XP Home SERVICE PACK 3. I have taken screen shots of every error message I can, as well as converting he diagnostic check to images (all 40+ pages of it) on Photobucket http://s294.photobucket.com/albums/mm81/freccle/NETBOOK/ Can anyone suggest what I’m doing wrong to connect or does it seem as there is a problem with the notebook? I’d assume that but it connects in other places! And it always SAYS it’s connected. Should I try getting a wifi dongle and see if I can get connected via that? HELP!!! Quote

I agree with KenB,plug in via an either net cable and see if you can get a connection.I recommended to a friend a few days ago when he had problems with Orange. freccle Posted October 10, 2012 Author Posted October 10, 2012 OK sorry for the delay in replying. YES it DOES connect no problem with an ethernet cable. I've attached screen shots of the network connection once connected. No there are no exclamation marks or crosses next to the network adaptors Tried pinging and got 4 requests timed out then 4 packets sent 0 received 4 lost (screen shot attached Could I bypass all this by buying a wifi dongle. Do you thing it would connect then? Quote
KenB Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Sorry for the late reply - I missed your last post !! YES it DOES connect no problem with an ethernet cable At least we know you can connect. Could I bypass all this by buying a wifi dongle. You say that your machine connects wirelessly elsewhere - buying a wireless adapter would not solve this I don't think. Give it a try if you wish - they are not expensive. Not sure if we asked this earlier - Can others connect wirelessly to your router ? This will let us know if it is a router or pc problem. freccle Posted October 15, 2012 Author Posted October 15, 2012 Nope - just done all that and nothing works. Have attached some screen shots Quote
KenB Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 WLAN Autoconfig should be Started and Automatic Sorry - forgot you were using XP ...........Wireless Zero as you rightly show in the bottom pic :) If you look at the ipconfig /all that you post the IP Address shown is an odd one ( not seen this before ). Try this with the ethernet cable connected: Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Network > Properties Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties Put a check in the box next to "Use The Following IP Address" For the IP Address put in 192 -168 - 2 - 1 Subnet Mask = 255 - 255 - 255 - 0 Default Gateway = 192 - 168- 2 - 1 You will need to change the DNS Server too. Set the Preferred to 8-8-8-8 And the Alternate to 8-8-4-4 Do the same with the wireless connection. Click OK to finish. Try the connection again - both with the cable and wireless. freccle Posted October 16, 2012 Author Posted October 16, 2012 Sorry - will try tomorrow when I have some peace and quiet on my own but thanks for help Quote
KenB Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 If the above doesn't work for you try the following: Start > Run ....type in ....cmd .....Enter At the prompt type in .... netsh int ip reset reset.log .(Enter).............To reset TCP/IP Then type.... netsh winsock reset catalog .(Enter)...........To Reset WINSOCK Try the connections now. If this fixes it we can go back to the manual settings (post #15 ) and make them auto again. freccle Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 Right thatnsk for all the help but absolutley NOTHING worked. Even the ethernet connection stopped working after I'd altered the TCP/IP settings. So then tried the winsock restting, restarted the computer as rquested, no change. aarrrggggg Quote
freccle Posted October 18, 2012 Author Posted October 18, 2012 HOWEVER!!!! I bought a Wifi USB adaptor and it connect with that. Still drives me round the bend why the proper one won't connect but at least now I can use it Quote
KenB Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 If it connected with the WiFi Adapter then your old adapter must be faulty. Good to hear that you can use it wireless again :) You need to go back and change the "IP Address and DNS Servers ...." to Auto detect.
