Hi,

After removing a dose of Babylon from my notebook, ref. Freepchelp, Snap.do Malware Removal, I discovered that I had no sound again. I've gone through the same procedures as a month ago, ref. Freepchelp, 'Hard Drive Backup', and it seems that I'm in the same position as before. Could I have missed something? Going through control panel I got into 'Manage audio devices' but had no option for 'Test' as it was greyed out. Prior to that, and I don't know how I did this, I got the test arrow to show green and got a message stating 'Windows error' after clicking it.

I have no x against my speaker icon in the system tray because I have no speaker icon in my system tray:confused:. This is a development from earlier and at another earlier point I had an x mark over my speaker icon.

I hope this is the right section for this because it could be a software issue.

No Sound on My Notebook

Update,

Ref, the above.

I just messed around with Windows Media Centre that stated that my tuner was not found. I went into my programs and could not find any media players.

There is Windows Live Essentials but I don't think that has much to do with the problem. After the Malwarebytes scan, a bundle was found under VLC Media Player that I deleted. I found something very similar in my programs and deleted that too. Is it possible that I deleted a legit Windows media player by mistake?

I went into the ASUS webpages and downloaded drivers: and that's just about what it came down to; they downloaded very nicely and are sitting in my downloads folder, but shouldn't something run?

Hi, first thing is to see if you actually need those drivers, so we need to look in device manager, a quick way to get to device manager is to first press the windows flag key and the letter R key. That will bring up the "Run" command box. Then type or copy and paste into the "Open" box,

devmgmt.msc

Then click OK.

Scroll down the list and look for Sound, video and game controllers. click the little arrow to the left to expand, are there any red or yellow marks against anything?
