Showerforanhour Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Hi Guys, First of all I'm very sorry if I've posted this in the wrong category but I come to you with a problem, (one of which I don't know how to fix!) I keep getting a blue screen error upon start-up. I copied and pasted the message I received when I managed to finally start my computer correctly and this is what I got; Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 2057 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 116 BCP1: FFFFFA8006A5C4E0 BCP2: FFFFF8800444D768 BCP3: 0000000000000000 BCP4: 0000000000000002 OS Version: 6_1_7601 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 768_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\101212-17113-02.dmp C:\Users\Elliott\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-65114-0.sysdata.xml If it helps at all, very recently also I seem to be having a slight problem with my graphics card, it keeps crashing and recovering whilst playing games mostly, but sometimes when watching videos. Some help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance guys. Elliott Quote
KenB Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS Often with a Blue Screen you get a STOP ERROR similar to this: STOP 0x0000000A (0xBFD14AAC, 0x000000FF, 0x00000000, 0x8000F67C) If you do - could you post this please as it may point us in the right direction. Switch off and re-boot. Constantly tap F8 about once per second You will see the Advanced Startup Options Select Safe Mode Does your machine crash using this ? Also from the list try "Last Known Good Configuration" Let us know how you get on. In regards to the STOP ERROR, where might I find this? Is it within the same message that I see when I manage to successfully log in? Once again I appreciate your help, I think it's about time I learnt a lot more about computers, I spend pretty much the majority of my spare time on them! Quote
KenB Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 The "STOP ERROR" message should be on the Blue Screen that you get Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
Plastic Nev Posted October 12, 2012 Posted October 12, 2012 Just to add to Kens good advice, if the blue screen and any stop error disappears before you can read it, follow kens advice for advanced start up by tapping F8 from boot up, you should first see this screen- http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y282/plasticpig/Safemodefirstscreen.jpg Use the up/down keys to select "Disable Automatic Restart on System Failure", then click the enter key. The next time you get a blue screen it should stay on it so you can make note of the stop error for us. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Showerforanhour Posted October 13, 2012 Author Posted October 13, 2012 (edited) Hi guys, for some reason I haven't received the blue screen for a while now, what has taken its place is the screen keeps going black and then coming back for a short period, but the mouse seems unresponsive. Thank God I manage to get time to post in-between these annoying fits! If it gets too bad I can always use a tablet to post though. If I left my computer whilst it was going black and coming back, would it eventually blue screen? It doesn't seem to be happening now. Safe Mode works completely fine Ken, I had no issues starting up that way... Thanks for also helping out Nev I appreciate it. Edited October 13, 2012 by Showerforanhour Quote
KenB Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 Safe Mode works completely fine Hi again, Try Diagnostic Startup Start > type in ....msconfig .....Enter Put a check next to Diagnostic Startup > OK This will run basic drivers and services. See how you get on with this. You will need a re-start. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Showerforanhour Posted October 13, 2012 Author Posted October 13, 2012 Hi Ken, just done this now this seems to run fine also with no problems. Should there be some kind of log when I start up this way? Or am I just being stupid?! Quote
KenB Posted October 13, 2012 Posted October 13, 2012 No - no log. What it does is load Windows with just the basics. It sounds as if you have a problem with a specific service or driver. Try it as it is for a while to test - if it is OK we can, if you wish, try looking for the problem. ( long job :) ) Take a look here: Start ....type in ....devmgmt.msc .....Enter Click the + next to each entry. You are looking for yellow exclamation marks.
