Hi

I have a little knowledge of computers enough to get me out of trouble most of the time but have hit a wall with this one.

I have a packard bell with vista that lost connection on sunday and will now not load have been trying everyday since. When i switch it on i get the normal beeping sound and the packard page as normal it then goes to the next one it is windows error recovery page have tried each of the options listed since the weekend, it looks like its going to loadwith the little microsoft corporation sign whizzing across but nothing happens :( i have searched and searched the internet to seewhat else i can do but im completly stumped now, im also worried that i will have lost everything. I really need to get it back working asap as i have important stuff i need to get completed on there .

would be most grateful for any help in the right direction many thanks

Hi, have you tried to get the computer into safe mode?

From boot up or pressing the normal start button, as soon as you see the Packard Bell logo start tapping the F8 key. You should get the Advanced boot options page first as below, use the up and down keys to select Safe Mode, then click the enter key.

In safe mode things look larger, that is normal, see what you can access from there and let us know please.

Hi Nev

 

yes have tried in safe mode, also with command prompt and last known good configuration :( it runs through loads and just stops on loaded:\windows\system\drivers\avgidshx.sys and wont go any further :(
