Right, I'm not very good with graphics card, bought my own PC just under 2 months ago, the computer has no graphics card and I am wishing to game and over time create and edit videos, so my choice in the end was the MSI GeForce GTX 660 OC Twin Frozr (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-174-MS) However I have no idea if this will work with my motherboard, It is Lenovo made so can't really go anywhere and just go 'BAM! There's my answer!' I am also wondering, will this even fit? Currently in my bottom PCI x1 port I have a wireless adapter. I will attach a couple images of the slots i have and also the part it would need to go through.

Thanks to all those that can help,

Markus

I was looking at this thread but didn't pick it up as I am away for a few days.

Vr5fx will be able to confirm:

I think this card is a dual slot ( wide ) card.

It will take up 2 blanks in the back of the machine.

This is not normally a problem but looking at your photos there are 2 capacitors below the slot.

These may ( not sure ) obstruct the wide card. It depends on how tall they are.

That is my current Specs, however as KenB said, it may be obstructed and that's what my main worry was but I would be wanting to see if it was compatible as well, also, with those specs and the hopeful graphics card, what power supply would I need? Thanks,

Markus

Could you tell us the current Wattage of your power supply? It should be stated on the side of the power supply.

As for the graphics card in question. Yes it should fit, even though I can't find "any" information of the motherboard in your PC (Do you have a link to where it was bought from?)

It will take up 2 slots, so you will lose one mini PCI-E

It should also sit above the capacitors as the heatsink has a clearance greater than the slot itself.

The current power supply is 250 Watts and I understand I'll lose one slot, keeping the other one for a sound card though, more than likely this a soundblaster audigy due to it being a PCI x1 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Sound+Cards/Creative+Labs+Sound+Blaster+Audigy+SE+-+Retail+?productId=50546) Sorry is there any way to explain the last part any simpler?

The PC was bought from PC World (Bad choice, i realise that now) however the PC in question is no longer for sale, your best bet would be to try the actual lenovo site, my pc is a Lenovo H430-31

Hi

From the pics and the specs I found for your pc ...........there is no PCI slot.

There is 1 PCIe x16 slot - which you are going to use for your Video Card.

Your PSU ( 250 Watts) is not enough to run the Video Card you suggested.

You are going to have to upgrade the PSU too.

Hi Ken,

From what I understand from system analysis programs I have 1 PCIe x16 and the other 3 are PCI x1 (I think)

The PCIe I will be using for the graphics card and one PCI shall be covered and the one that is not used up I shall be fitting a Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy Sound Card into, I know I will need to upgrade but am unsure as to what i would need to get. Any ideas?

Thanks so much for all the help KenB, so overall, upgrade the PSU, one PCIe x1 would be taken up by the graphics card but there would be no problems apart from that?

Hi again

one PCIe x1 would be taken up by the graphics card

The graphics card uses the PCIe x 16 slot ( the long one )

PCIe x 1 are the small slots.

450 Watts is suggested as a minimum - I would go for 500 Watts.

I would take the PSU out - or at least have a good look at it to make sure it is a standard model.

The size and fan position should confirm this.

Just to pop in here, we have been discussing an Asus sound card in the sound cards threads here=

http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/14295-Good-and-cheap

That card, typical of Asus sound cards by the way, requires a four pin power supply, can you confirm Ken, having looked at the PSU in question, that it will have that supply plug available?

I know a lot of modern PSU units have more spares than the QE2 would need, but it would be nice to know for sure.

Hi Nev

  • 1 x 20+4-pin ATX
  • 1 x 4+4-pin ESP/12V CPU
  • 1 x 6+2-pin PCI-E
  • 1 x 6 pin PCI-E
  • 2 x 4-pin Peripheral
  • 4 x 5-pin SATA

It has 2 x 4 pin connections :)
