Hi

I have a problem with spam in Thunderbird :(.

I'm getting Loads of emails (some in Russian) and they are in my "sent" box too, so I assume I've been hacked and have a malware /virus in T bird.

In my infinite wisdom, I figured that if I uninstall T bird completely then re- install with a new password, that would do the trick........Yes/No??

Anyway I can't seem to remove ALL traces of T bird, even with Revo Uninstaller.

could someone possibly please help me?

Thanks in anticipation. :)

Your issue is not with Thunderbird. Thunderbird is merely a mail client that collects all of your active email accounts and puts them in one place so you do not have to go on the net to collect them one by one.

If you are getting spam email the problem lies with one or more email accounts that you have opened and have set to forward to Thunderbird. As for removing it completely, I don't know if there is an issue but it would not solve your problem anyway.

Thanks for the reply.

That's interesting, I do have gmail set into T Bird only.

Would that likely be the cause then?

i thought gmail was supposed to be very safe?

It is not a question of safe or unsafe. Somehow a spammer got hold of your address. It may have been included in a forwarded email sent by someone else down the line. Now they are sending you emails to that address. If you reply or even ask them to remove you from their list it will only make things worse.

Your only real option is to change your address. Blocking certain senders will not work because they use many addresses themselves.

many thanks for your advice. I'll just have to change my address I guess.

Do I have to change my password too?
