rotmegsie Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Hi, I am new to the forum and although I can use my computer fairly well I am not 'up' on technical jargon. Someone I half-know sujests I upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 ultimate and he has given me two softwear discs and one disc with the Windows 7 on it. My computer is an Advent Quad Core Intel Q6600 but according to this guy it would require a terabyte internal hard drive to install this system. Is this right ?... if so where can I get one and what wording would I have to look for (numbers , lettters, etc.,) and what price would I be looking at ?. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Regards.:o Quote
Vr5fx Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Hi and welcome to the Forum. A Terabyte is not required for installing Windows 7. Windows 7 can be installed on pretty much any size hard drive greater than 60 GB. To verify click on Start -> Computer As an example mine is 163GB free of 223GB Another thing to note is that you can't install Windows 7 unless you have a Product Key. As it was "given" to you by a half known friend and it is Windows 7 Ultimate then that would make me think that the DVD's in your possession are not genuine Members of this forum won't assist people with pirated material. -Vr Quote AMD FX 6100 @ 3.9Ghz / Asus M5A99X EVO 990X / G-Skill 8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX / Zotac GeForce GTX 660 Ti / Corsair TX 750W V2 PSU / Antec Kuhler 620 / Win7 64 / NZXT Tempest 410 Elite / NZXT 6 channel fan controller / Kingston 240GB HyperX 3K SSD / 1TB HDD Intel Pentium G2020 2.90GHz / Gigabyte GA-Z77N-WIFI / Kingston 4GB DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Genesis / Corsair 430W CXM / Fractal Design Node 304 Mini ITX Case / 2TB WD Greenhttp://steamsignature.com/status/default/76561197986113115.png
KenB Posted October 22, 2012 Posted October 22, 2012 Hi if the copy of windows that you have been given has been used before -which I suspect - then it is illegal to put it on your system We will not be able to help with this Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! rotmegsie Posted October 23, 2012 Author Posted October 23, 2012 terabyte for Q6600 Hi all , and thanks for the replies. I thought this guy who gave me the discs was not genuine when he said a friend could fit one in my computer for £70. That set the off the alarm bells and I just wondered how easy (or hard) it would be to fit one myself , not knowing anything that technical, hence my questions. Thanks Again, I will keep looking in on this site for information. Rotmegsie. Quote
KenB Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 I thought this guy who gave me the discs was not genuine There is a lot of illegal software out there - especially on auction sites. It is relatively easy to install a new Operating System when you have legitimate disks :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! Plastic Nev Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 If you do genuinely wish to upgrade to Windows 7, Microsoft do produce the disk or even a direct download from the Microsoft website, it means that then your money is going to the correct people and not a possible criminal type. You can also buy the correct and therefore legal disk from most reputable computer dealers too. As for the disk you have been given, give it back and just say you don't want it. I would like to tell you to destroy it, but the person might want money from you, especially if you did. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help.
