It is always when I go into 'my computer' and select c:, it opens, and when the first folder changes to an Icon or bmp view of windows directory , the error screen comes up and it forlds .

I would read it if I were you. I have seen trojans that can cause very similar issues. In any case try the scans listed there. That's what first caught my eye.

 

I forget. Did you run the Norton removal tool?

 

If it's a third party shell extension problem download ShellExView as per the above link to see which ones you may have.

 

And don't forget to wait for others to respond to this post. They most likely have some ideas.

Don't lose hope Bridget.

 

We're not tired of you - we may not be able to immediately correct your issue, but in time I'm sure we can pin it down. It's just difficult to fix everything without having physical access to the system.

 

It could be a trojan of some kind or maybe even a corrupt font.

Bridget again, yes I did get and remove the Norton remnants thanks , and I think I checke d the tech file, but I'll follow up the latest suggestions and let you know.
