Hi and welcome to ExTS

This doesn't look like a complete ipconfig /all

How did you run it ?

From a command prompt?

No Wireless - so you are connecting directly to the router with an eternet cable ?

Try one of the laptops and use the ethernet cable.

(turn the wireless off - there may be a switch to do this on the front / side or top of the laptop )

Can you connect this way ?

Hi Thanks for the quick reply. That is all the dos window showed. Yes i ran it from a command prompt. When i tried to type it in the start>run box it wouldn't show. Now we're onto something. the netbook i usually use wirelessly would not connect via the ethernet cable either. I don't think its a problem with the cable itself as i had sky issue me with a new router and cable when this problem started. Could it be a phone line problem? My phone works ok and sky said they checked and it was working fine. So confused

Sorry ^^ this is nonsense. I tried again and actually opened a browser and it worked fine on the laptop. The not connected message i was getting was due to the wireless network being off. Sorry. So the cables and line are working fine. Its got to be a pc problem

Hi,

Absolutely no connection at all.

Tracing route to 194.119.131.66 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 Destination host unreachable.

This is significant.

The first hop should have been to the router

Start > Run ....type in ......devmgmt.msc .....Enter

Click the + next to Network Adapters

It should show Realtek RTL8139/810x

Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?

When you connect the cable from the pc to the router does the Connection LED light up?

If it does .....

Does it go out if you disconnect from the pc but leave it connected at the router ?

Sorry you'll have to clarify which led we're talking about. My pc has no LED's at all. The router has 3 lights on, a power symbol, a transmitter symbol and an @ sign. No change in any of these when i unplug the ethernet
Posted

Let me have the make and model number of the router please.

There is usually an indication that there is a LAN connection when you plug in the ethernet cable.

The router is made by Sagemcom. There is no obvious model number but it does have V.6 in the corner of the label if that helps.

i see there is supposed to be a port number light on the right of the sky logo. I do not have that light.

I do not have that light.

That is what I was going to ask :)

It looks very much as if your NIC card has died.

( the card you connect the ethernet cable to )

You can take it out and try it in another PCI slot if you have one spare.

Or you could put it in another pc to test or borrow a card to try.

There are a couple of other things we can try...

Download Winsock Fix to a memory stick

Run it on the problem PC.

Thanks. Ran that program, it doesn't appear to have made any difference.

Also checked in tcp properties and both Obtain an IP address automatically, and Obtain DNS Servers automatically are checked.

My pc only has one ethernet socket, so if that's gone, i'm screwed!

My pc only has one ethernet socket, so if that's gone.......

They are replaceable - quite cheaply.

I did suggest that you try it in a different slot on the motherboard.

Is this possible?.

We can also try deleting the drivers and re-installing from device manager.

There is a post above to read too :)

Start > Run ....type in ....devmgmt.msc ....Enter

Click the + next to Network Adapters > right click on device > uninstall

Reboot the computer.

Windows will find "New Hardware" and should re-install the drivers.

Check again in device manager.

I will pick this up again tomorrow :)

Ok I tried uninstalling the network adapter and nothing changed once it reinstalled.

The card link you sent me unfortunately looks nothing like mine. I told you it was old lol see attached pics.

Hi

What you have is an on-board Network Adapter. ( attached directly to the motherboard )

You do have empty PCI slots ( The white ones at the bottom of the right hand pic )

You could try a PCI NIC card ( previous post )

Alternatively you could borrow one or ask at a small pc repair shop if they have a used one you could buy cheap to try.

We are running out of options and really need to take the NIC out of the equation or confirm that it is at fault.

===========

You have a big build-up of dust that needs cleaning away.

I would do this outside.

Can of compressed air ( any computer shop ) or a soft brush.

Pay particular attention to the fans and vents.
