usmanozzy786 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Can someone tell me what channel should I have my talktalk router? Quote
KenB Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Hi, I have my router set to channel 6. I would suggest either 6 or 11 ( you can select any in between if you wish ) There is no specific channel that it should be set to. If you find that wireless connectivity is a problem change the channel number - but don't go above 11. BreatGritain Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 It depends on what channels are being used by your neighbours routers. You can download a program which tells you what channels other routers in your area are using (google search sonething like wifi scanner, and hope for the best). I usually use the blind technique and set routers' channels without bothering to do the above though, my personal preference is channel 11. I've been told that channels 1 and 9 are "better", although nobody has ever cared to explain why, and in what respect. To summarise: it's trial and error. Pick any channel, if it works, great, if it doesn't, pick another. KenB, why would you avoid channels 12 & 13? I've heard someone advise this before but I never knew why! Quote
Starbuck Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 why would you avoid channels 12 & 13? I thought the same question. on searching i found this: Within Europe and Japan, there are two additional channels available: 12 and 13. But they are of little use, as they both overlap with channel 11. Still worse, devices may refuse to connect to those channels, unless they have been set up properly Maybe Ken could confirm this? KenB Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 KenB, why would you avoid channels 12 & 13? In addition to starbuck's reply: USA have funny rules regarding those frequencies so tend not to advise using them as a general rule ( not knowing where the member lives ) Having said that - I see usmanozzy786 is UK based - so this would not apply :) Also - with selecting either 1, 6 or 11 there is no overlap of channel frequency so if there is radio interference on, say channel 1, there is a good chance - if you select channel 6 or 11 that the problem will not be there.
