Hi all, new on here!

I have a problem that has been plaguing me for quite a few years, with at least 2 different computers.

When using internet, looking at several different sites, when a picture is posted, all I get is a box with

a red x in it. No matter what I do , I have never got into the picture. This does not always happen, but

i guess about 20% . The other 80% are fine. I am on Windows 7 Home Premium now, but it was the same

with XP.

Help Please!!

It could be a browser setting. If it is IE try a reset which will disable add-ons.

Control Panel>Internet Options>Advanced tab>reset

It says that because it will reset all of the IE settings to the original default. It also will remove any IE add-ons which you may want such as toolbars. They would need to be reinstalled.

You could go through quite a few IE changes one at a time looking for a cause instead. However this is usually faster. You can always change the settings back later if you have customized any of them.

There is also the other end of the stick, where an image may not open because you haven't either enabled something or haven't got an add on or application for viewing the image.

Add to that, if on a slow connection for instance a dial up one, the image may not load due to a time out, that also will give the square box and red X in it.

On that last note, what type of connection do you have, and what is the top speed of it if a broadband one?

Thanks Guys. A bit more info. I have had use of a computer since about 1999, since then I've had 3 different computers

with windows 98, then XP, now 7, & this prob. has occured on all 3 (not same equipment on any 3 systems). I am now on

broadband, with B.T. Just checked speed, 16.7mb download. Surely this can not just be happening to me, others must have

had a similar prob. Remember it does not happen all the time, only about 20% of pictures are affected.

Hi again, at least it isn't likely to be a connection issue if you have that download speed, that leaves us with two possibilities, something missing, or some aspect of security

Which browser do you use, Internet Explorer? or other?

Do you have Java enabled?

Which firewall and which antivirus are you using?

An answer may be found in answers to those.

An adblocker program perhaps. No Flashplayer installed maybe. It could even be a Hosts file.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the replys. Internet Explorer - 8 (I think), Java - Yes, Firewall - Windows

Anti - virus - Microsoft security essentials, Flashplayer - yes.

No idea what a adblocker program is, or a Hosts file.

Hi Pete, if using Internet Explorer only it may be a security setting, to find out click tools, then Internet options, and the tab for security, you will see four headings there, "Internet", "Local Intranet" Trusted Sites and Restricted sites, click Internet, where is the slider? for best safe results it should be on Medium High., have a look at the others as well and let us know where they are set too.

trusted sites - medium, restricted - high.

Over to you again, regards Pete

Another easy way to see if it's an IE setting is to try Firefox if you don't want to do an IE re-set.

Indeed a good idea of Randy's to download and install a different browser, as well as Firefox there are others you can try as well such a Google Chrome, Opera, Comodo Dragon and Flash Peak Slim Browser, all browsers I have tried with each having their own merits, but worth trying any one of them to see if the problem still occurs.
