Hi everybody,

I have a nividia 8400gs 512mb graphics card, which i think i could have slightly damaged. it seems to work okay for most things but i am having trouble wathching tv through it.

so the problem i have is this;

my missus loves to play the sims 3, which the graphics card works quite well.

i love to watch the football, which the graphics card is pretty poor

so what i would like to know is, can i just switch to the onboard graphics whenever i want to watch the footy and switch back to nividia when she plays her game?

or should i just get a new graphics card?

any suggestions would be greatfully received.

thank you

Alex

Welcome to the forum!

Could you explain what issues you have when watching football, how is your computer set up to watch it?

As an example do you watch it through the internet? Or is it another source?

hi Vr5fx,

thanks for the superfast responce.

I watch the football and other programs through the internet, using the iplayers and skygo. i have found that watching programs through flash e.g bbc iplayer is generally okay, but watching through silverlight e.g skyplayer is pretty rubbish.

but before i installed the nividia card, all of the livestream and catchup services worked really well with the onboard graphics.

i don't dare to just swap back to the onboard, incase it ruins the missus game?

thanks

id just say get a new g-card. i use the gtx 580 you can get these very cheap now as they are 2 years old but at 1.5gb DDR they are very powerful and ample for your problem..! otherwise id suggest getting ur misses a PS3 and boot her in the spare room to play sims while you watch the football... thats what i do :) hope this helps.

thanks wizz,

i think you're right, i need a new g-card. I shall look out for the card you've suggested.

and i also think you've got the right idea with kicking the missus off the pc,

i'll tell her tonight, if you don't hear from me within a week it means she's killed me. lol

cheers
