Hello

I've recently (as of this week) been unable to install anything I download. The most common error it throws is "Error 5: Access denied. Could not write to temp file blahblah.tmp" or something to that effect. Or it may tell me "Unable to find a volume to extract to. Please verify you have correct permissions" or if the installer is trying to download the files required it'll throw a "Can't connect to the internet" error.

I installed a casino application which didn't appear to cause any issues. I then installed a casino roulette application which upon opening gave me an error along the lines of "Runtime error type 13" and closed. After this happened I could not install anything at all.

There's no internet issues to note. I've ran Microsoft Security Essentials full and quick scan options several times also ran Malwarebytes full and quick scan options several times, most of the time they both show no issues. Sporadically Malwarebytes will have to remove one threat. I've also tried a system restore which hasn't worked. My account is the only account on my computer; it's also an administrator account. I've tried the "run as an admin" option which makes no difference. I have Windows 7 64bit. I've tried an SFC scan twice which hasn't found any integrity issues.

This is driving me crazy! Please, can someone help me resolve this issue?

Thanks

Hi Ken

Unfortunately, as I noted above, I've already tried a system restore and it's not working! I now cannot go any further back than the 31st anyway.

As you don't seem to be able to install anything.... Do you have use of another system that you can download a program with??

If so:

For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive. (using a good known computer)

Now plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Enter System Recovery Options.

To enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:

  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
  • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
  • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
  • Select your user account an click Next.

On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:

      Startup Repair
      System Restore
      Windows Complete PC Restore
      Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
      Command Prompt

    [*]Select Command Prompt

[*]In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.

[*]The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.

[*]Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.

[*]In the command window type e:\frst64 and press Enter

Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.

[*]The tool will start to run.

[*]When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.

    [*]Press Scan button.

[*]It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

Thanks
