Hi

I live in a rural location and have a lot of trouble with my line connection (a long way from the exchange)

I have done some speed tests and I get on average download of 400 kbps and upload of 450 kbps ping of 70ms

I have done the same tests with my phone connected to the wifi and get the same results

I then do a test on orange 3g and I get download of 5500 kbps and download of 1500 kbps ping of 98

Should I get the orange wifi bubble and connect my pc's to it, it says we can connect up to 8 devices.

Thanks

Fran

Hi Fran, welcome to ExTS,

I would check with BT to see if they plan to upgrade your area to fibre optic anytime soon, as fibre would be better than a 3G service. If not, check on the Virgin Media website to see if your postcode is in a cabled area, as again this would be much better than 3G.

If neither BT nor Virgin are any good then a 3G service might be the only way, but I wouldn't sign a lengthy contract, just on case it turns out to be worse than your current set up.

It would also be worth pointing out thatany 3G services have relatively low download limits, so I would double check this with the provider as well.
