fuzz is ninja Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Ok so I’m trying to fix a friends laptop, she has as the title says a Dell Inspirion 1545. It’s not that old, but it has been running very slowly for a very long time to the point that it is hardly ever used. I offered to take a look at it as I’m usually quite good with these kinds of things. So i used a windows 7 home-premium 64-bit disc I have, to clean re-install the operating system, this was because the restore points where corrupt and there are no disc to go with the laptop. once windows was installed the laptop was still running very slowly, so i went onto the dell website to download the drivers need, I downloaded the dell system Analyser, and then downloaded the 5 drivers it said i needed, after that the laptop is still running horrifically slowly and I’m stumped, so any help would be great. Thanks in advance. Quote
KenB Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS i used a windows 7 home-premium 64-bit disc I have, to clean re-install I assume that this is already installed on your own machine ? Try the RAM modules one at a time. Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
fuzz is ninja Posted November 7, 2012 Author Posted November 7, 2012 yeah windows 7 home-premium 64-bit is already installed, and i did a Memory diagnostic and nothing came up as an error Quote
KenB Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 windows 7 home-premium 64-bit is already installed, If you have installed this OS on two machines it is not a legal install on your friend's. I am sorry - we cannot advise any further. Our forums are monitored and we do not want any bother from Microsoft. fuzz is ninja Posted November 8, 2012 Author Posted November 8, 2012 no its legal, cause its just re-installing windows it doesn't ask for an activation key because i used the windows that was already on the machine i just, technically repaired it, if you get what i mean. It is legal though Quote
KenB Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 i just, technically repaired it, if you get what i mean I understand - just assumed from your first post where you said ... to clean re-install the operating system once windows was installed Clean re-install is not repair :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! fuzz is ninja Posted November 8, 2012 Author Posted November 8, 2012 ok well i worded it horrifically, ill give you that, but i did it from the windows which was already installed, i believe it was a re-install my understanding of a clean re-install on the other hand is not very good, I put in the windows 7 disc and re-installed from there deleting all the partitions, but im not sure what went wrong because its still so slow Quote
Armageddon Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Can I ask what was the operating system on the Dell before the install of windows 7 ?
