KenB Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS File: \windows\System32\Drivers\RapportKELL.sys This is related to Rapport software that comes free from your bank. Did you attempt to remove it ? Can you boot up in Safe Mode? constantly tap F8 about once per second after switching on. Can you check in the BIOS to see if there is an option to boot from an external drive ( USB ) It will be either F2 or DEL after you switch on ( again tap this key ) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! fudge Posted November 7, 2012 Author Posted November 7, 2012 HI and thanks Hi and thanks for replying. Not sure if inadvertantly did but not consciouly so. Safe nor any of the other boot options work. accessed F2 and scrolled to boot sequence which lists priority as 1. diskette drive 2. HDD 3. USB Ordering was locked so went to unlock set up. asked for admin password which i just cant remember! Quote
KenB Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 asked for admin password which i just cant remember! If you got into the BIOS without a password it is unlikely that one is set. What if you leave the box blank and just hit Enter ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! No, comes up 'Incorrect Password' Does 'diskette' refer to floppy disk? Presume as there is no tray for such that this would need USB input? Quote
fudge Posted November 7, 2012 Author Posted November 7, 2012 sorry excuse my typing. the borrowed laptop im using has a difficult keyboard... Quote
KenB Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Does 'diskette' refer to floppy disk? Yes - that is a floppy drive. Take the CMOS battery out for 2 mins. This will reset the BIOS to defaults I am thinking that if you can move the USB option to first in the Boot Order you could use an external CD drive to re-install an Operating System Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! fudge Posted November 8, 2012 Author Posted November 8, 2012 any idea where it is located? cant see it when taking battery out and removing small panel in centre. am totally ignorant about inside of pc. have googled but cant find any info on where the cmos is located... Quote
KenB Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 I'm sorry - forgetting that this is a laptop !! In the majority of cases it is really awkward to get at. If you go back to the Safe Mode options again ( F8 ) is there an option to "Repair your Computer" If there is give this a try. Without access to a CDROM drive we are struggling.
