Guest Wolfeymole Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Hello Samo Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help I'm not sure that Vista runs the same scenario as XP on this but if it does then just untick "Always use the selected program to open this type of file" like in the shot below. http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z144/Wolfeymoles-Pics/FPCH%20files/alwaysopenwith.png Quote
omega_shadow Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Here Wolfy, let me lend a hand. ;) So, your saying when you download something in Internet Exploter it automaticaly opens the program or file instead of saving it? If so, I am going to take an fstab in the dark and say if you got Vista (bleah!) your using Internet Exploiter 7 (double bleah!). There are three solutions to this: 1. Stop using Internet Exploter / Switch to FireFox or Opera 2. Get rid of windows and switch to linux :p 2. Hop through hoops Microsoft put in place so you cant change system settings without a roadmap. For simplicity, I will only put option number 3 here. If you would like to know about other Web Browsers and Operating systems and how they are more stable and secure, just ask and ye shall recive :D (Note: I am a Linux user, and as such I am a bit rusty with windows and have not used Vista. If Vista is anything like XP then these instructions will work like a charm) 1. Go to Control Panel and then Folder Options 2.When the "Folder Options" dialog pops up, click on the File Types tab 3. Select a file type that you are having problems downloading and press Advanced 4. Uncheck the "Confirm Open After Download" Option 5. Click "OK" 6. Rinse, repeat Quote I\'m not here, I am just more likely to be here then not be here. It\'s physics, I don\'t expect you to understand.

RandyL Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Hi Samo, try this. Control Panel classic view>Default Programs>Associate a file type and protocol with a program. Yes Wolfey the Open With function is still the same in Vista. RandyL Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. Guest Wolfeymole Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Download Firefox 2 from here Samo. Forget all about Linux for the time being. When you have downloaded and installed Firefox get back to us. Quote
Seth Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 You need to find out what type of file extension the program had. If you still have it, right click on and choose Properties. It should show the file type. Samo_08 Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 Hi, I downloaded Firefox. I try to download on there and it stil does the same thing Quote
AdvancedSetup Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I acidently opened a programme and I clicked OpenWith. What program did you open? Was it a program as in an application or a file that you didn't know what it was? Now everytime I download something it opens with a programme like WordPad or Internet. Are you running Internet Explorer 6 or 7 ? So are you saying that if you click on this link here that Firefox or Internet Explorer won't download and save it to disk, it opens it automatically? Click to download HijackThis 2.0.2 from TrendMicro If this is the case then here is a link for myself and Seth to review for potential assistance. Description of how the Attachment Manager works in Windows XP Service Pack 2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883260 Try starting Internet Explorer and go to Tools Internet Options Click the Security tab Set all the zones to their default level .
