For some reason my XP machines freezes on the bios screen, This is the whole thing what happens.

At night I turn off pc outlet

in the morning I turn on outlet and PC turns on fine

I then shutdown after I have used for like 1 hour or so, and when I then turn on the PC for like after couple of hours it just freezes on BIOS screen, I have to turn turn of pc and then try again and mostly it dont work.

It only works when I turn it off completly back from power outlet and leave it off for like 10 seconds then when I turn it on it works.

Hi,

When the machine freezes at the BIOS screen does it beep ?

If so ....how many and what sequence ? ( 1 long 2 short for instance )

============

Take one of the RAM modules out and try booting now.

If the same ...swap the RAM modules over and try the other one.

Let me know the result.

I dont think it has anything to do with the ram as they used to be working find just few days before

Well it does 1 beep which means normal, then it freezes

The only way you will find out is to try what I suggested.

This is not a Power On Self Test ( POST ) beep.

Is there anyway to find out what RAM my computer is using part from opening the case and checking? because I wanna add another 1/2 GB of RAM at the moment it has 1GB installed.

Also its Windows XP so how much RAM can it hold in total?

The computer is Fujitsu Sieman, intel pentium 4 processor

Hi if you use the memory scanner from crucial it will scan your pc and tell you the Ram installed and the max it will hold http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/

@ Kenb - I opened the computer and it had dust in it and also there was dust attached to one of the RAM, so I cleaned it and swapped the RAMs arround as you told me, Now it seems ok. If the problem exists again I will let you know :)

I MUST get my glasses changed - you were correct with this statement :)

I dont have admin right

Why not - is this not your machine ?

Is this why you are reluctant to take the RAM out and try them one at a time ?

Still suggest taking the RAM modules out - give the contacts a clean with a pencil eraser - and put just one back.

Try booting up.

If no go - swap for the other module and try with just that.

Do you have another pc with a PSU that you can swap over to try ?
