Hi folks,

I have an msi cr630 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. I've tried googling this problem, but found nothing similar.

A few days ago I turned on my laptop, booted up, all was fine. I keep the power cable plugged in and the indicator in the bottom right of the screen showed the battery icon with a little plug to tell me that it's charging. The battery LED on my laptop also was lit to show that it was charging.

Half an hour later I removed power cable to relocate the laptop elsewhere. When I reconnected the power however, the charge icon in windows remained unchanged and the power LED on my laptop did not come on.

I assumed there was a connection issue with the power jack, however, that has been replaced just a few months ago.

I have since left my laptop on and, whilst the power indicator continues to slowly tick towards empty, the laptop has not turned off.

To clarify, the laptop has now been on for 5 days straight and I've used it for power intensive gaming and photoshopping. So I think it's safe to assume the laptop is still getting charge, it's just not showing it.

I'm stumped, any ideas?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi, thanks for the welcome and your reply.

The LED light does not flicker or come on at all. As I said, the LED power indicator is off, the indicator on Windows shows an almost empty battery with a few minutes of charge left in it. However, it does not get any lower as long as the power cable is connected. Today I swapped out the battery for one that is almost new and the problem still persists.

Presumably this is with the mains adapter plugged in ?

If you have a volt meter - what is the voltage on the jack that is plugged into the laptop ?

This is the only thing I can think of that would possibly cause the LED to stay off but supply enough power to run the machine.

Hi, quick update. Curiously, this issue seems to have resolved itself....

I unplugged the mains lead and allowed the laptop to drain its' battery to the point where it gives a warning and hibernates.

Upon reconnecting the mains adaptor and rebooting, everything now works as normal. The power LED is green to show it is charging and the battery icon in windows has also changed to reflect this.

Very curious!

Thanks for trying to help KenB
