firmware problem

hi sandog here, ill start by saying i need to open or unzip or unrar the files that i download, im using winzip, but when i download the files even after unzipping them, they just look the same, a load of letters and numbers all mixed up that i can not make head or tail of. ive tried everything, when i download the files, i open them just to see if there any different, as to when ive saved them and unzipped them, but there not, its like a load of binary if thats the write word, i dont really know what im sopossed to be looking for and i need this to put on my usb stick so i can update my openbox sat receiver by the usb that the firmware will go on please could someone give me a clue as to were ive gone wrong thanx very much sandog its like banging my head on a brick wall and ive been like this for 2 weeks now on other forums they give me help by writjn things but it does not helpthats why ive come to a computer forum
