peem Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 For the last few weeks my browser(s) have been very slow to open. I usually use firefox but it just the same in IE. I switch on, wait until the desktop appears. I click the browser icon and then I........wait. I timed it just before I came here. There was no sign of anything happening for exactly four minutes. Then a white screen with Firefox, on the blue bar at the top with menu and address bars underneath. The rest of the screen remained white for another three minutes. Once the browser opened all worked fine. I've run av scans, malwarebytes and cleaned up with Ccleaner, but it's still the same. It's not a huge problem, I just go and do something else while it's sorting itself out but it is annoying. When I remember I open task manager while it tries to open. Nothing seems to be using too much CPU. Quote

peem Posted November 17, 2012 Author Posted November 17, 2012 Oh dear, I don't know how to say this. Well I logged on today and it took 6min for the title bar (faded) to appear, another 30sec for it to be as it should be. It then took another 8, yes eight minutes for my browser to appear and another 45 seconds for the cursor to turn from a hourglass to a pointer. Let me say though that it has taken this long in the past, just not lately. So all in all I'm afraid I would say, no change. Thanks for the help though. Quote
Armageddon Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Hi peem sorry it's running slow still could you please download the following program and run it please. Download Security Check from here or here. Save it to your Desktop. Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box. A Notepad document should open automatically when the program has finished... called checkup.txt; please copy and paste the contents of that document in your next reply. ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted November 20, 2012 ExTS Admin Posted November 20, 2012 Hi Peem, It is not recommend that you have more than one anti virus product installed and running on your computer at a time. The reason for this is that if both products have their automatic (Real-Time) protection switched on, then those products which do not encrypt the virus strings within them can cause other anti virus products to cause "false alarms". It can also lead to a clash as both products fight for access to files which are opened again this is the resident/automatic protection. In general terms, the two programs may conflict and cause: 1) False Alarms: When the anti virus software tells you that your PC has a virus when it actually doesn't. 2) System Performance Problems: Your system may lock up due to both products attempting to access the same file at the same time. Therefore please go to add/remove in the control panel and remove either Trend Micro Titanium or Avira Free Antivirus . Quote Member of:UNITE
peem Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 Hi Starbuck, Yes I noticed Trend was there when I sent that last report. I thought I had removed it with Revo un-installer a while ago. I looked in add/rem but there was nothing there. I did a search immediately and I have removed it now. Quote
