Hi, I have a problem with my computer. It switched off itself after few mins. Sometime switch off quicker some time bit late. Say about 10 mins. Every time after turn off, I cannot switch on with the switch. I have to inplug the power supply and press the switch for few seconds before re-connect and works. And same again. Some time computer freezes. No movement on mouse or key board. That time computer never switch off itself. What could be the reason? Windows xp pc.

Hiya and welcome.

Are you able to take the side of the tower off and see if there is any dust on any of the components?

Overheating could be the cause of the issue.

Could you also tell us how many sticks of RAM are used?

Please let us know what you find.

I could see dust in.

When clearing dust you are best advised to use a can of compressed air in short bursts ( preferably outside )

Pay particular attention to the fans and vents and even underneath the motherboard - if this is accessible.

This does sound like overheating.

It could possibly be a RAM or PSU issue too.

Try the RAM just 2 at a time.

XP will run with 256 MB.

Some motherboards need 2 sticks in and it will run from 2 modules.

First two slots re-boot quietly

?? - quietly ?? no beeps at all ?

But none of the time nothing comes on the screen

I don't understand.

2 RAM = boots quietly ......but nothing on screen ?

Can you explain in a bit more detail please what happens with 2 modules - then the other 2.

Thanks.

Hi

I am still nagging on about your RAM. :)

Can you tell me the make and model number of your motherboard please ?

Failing that - what is the make and model number of your computer ?

I will take a look at the specs and see if I can find out which pair of RAM needs to be in which slots.

Are the slots 2 different colours ?
