JL2008 Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Hi, I have a PC with XP. When I connect my flash drive to it, nothing happens. I went to the registry and the value is set to 3. I went to computer management and all I see is the hard drives. There is nothing under removeable storage. I have another PC with 2000. This PC detects my flash drive. Any ideas? Quote
maynardvdm Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Hi Have you tried different USB ports on the PC? Quote We are all members helping other members. JL2008 Posted November 22, 2012 Author Posted November 22, 2012 I hooked up my flash drive to the port behind the PC and Windows detected it. But if I hook it up to the ports in the front, Windows wont detect the flash drive. Any fix for this? Quote
maynardvdm Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 The front USB ports might not be connected to the motherboard. You will have to open the case to see if it is connected. KenB Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 As a work-around you could get something like this: click here Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
JL2008 Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 I connected 2 different printers to both front ports and I was able to print. I have tried about 5 flash drives. And Windows doesn't detect any of them. Quote

KenB Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 I connected 2 different printers to both front ports and I was able to print I have seen this before. The USB ports may not be providing the 500mA / 5v that they should. Your printer is only receiving data the Flash Drives need power too. Do you have anything else ( external hard drive ? ) that requires power from the ports to try ? JL2008 Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 Thanks for everyon for writing back. The only other external USB device that I have is an IPOD. And the front ports didnt recognize that either. Quote
KenB Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 .....I have is an IPOD. And the front ports didnt recognize that either. It looks like a power issue. Did you try Maynard's FixIt from the link ? Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! JL2008 Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 Yes I tried Maynard's FixIt from the link. It did not fix the problem. I click on the link and it talks about CD/DVD drive. I ran the FixIT and all it talked about what the CD/DVD drive. Any more ideas? The PC is an Acer Veriton M2610. Someone was saying that the front ports might have enough power for the flash drive. Is this possible? Quote
KenB Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Someone was saying that the front ports might have enough power for the flash drive. Is this possible? That was me on post #8 yes - it is possible that the front ports are not supplying enough power to run some external equipment. You said earlier that they work ok for a printer ( sending data only ) but not for flash drives / iPod ( which need to take power from the USB ports ) You could try this FixIt troubleshooter click here If this doesn't do it - and I am not hopeful - then an extension from the rear ports would seem to be the solution. JL2008 Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 Now the front ports does not work at. I connected a printer, mouse & keyboard to both ports and nothing happened Quote
KenB Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Now the front ports does not work Do the rear ports still work? It sounds as if the front have died. The simplest option is to us an extension hub from the back ports. click here Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
