Before I start, I will state that this is not illegal in any way. I do not and never will do modifications to firmware.

This modification only changes how the unit looks, it still functions in exactly the same way as it would brand new.

The Xbox 360 I use for gaming is untouched in any way.

If anyone wishes to copy or attempt to mod their personal equipment, do so at your own risk. I have lost all warranty with this product and cannot send it for repair if it breaks.

Micro$oft has the right to ban the unit from using Xbox live, as stated in part C of their code of conduct.

Some offenses warrant an immediate permanent suspension, including without limitation: hacking, modding, fraud, severe racial remarks, nudity on the Xbox LIVE Vision camera or Kinect camera, repeated creation of inappropriate gamertags or profile content, or posting viruses or URLs to viruses

Right, onto the fun part.

This project will take quite a while as I'm working on it in my spare time.

Let the fun begin.

I got a cheap, broken Xbox to use for testing, first job was to strip it down and tape up the casing.

A few hours later I had the idea, it's not completely finished but for the most part, it is there.

I won't be using the black for the mod as the back is damaged, the black is for the rough guide.

Onto the motherboard, I will do a magic trick.

Memory card ports.... Be gone!

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b366/Cougie/New%20Xbox%20360/20121125_190328.jpg

At some point I have to hunt out the 3.3v line for some LEDS, but we will do that later.

I will update again hopefully later.

The next thing to do is to play around with some LEDS, I got myself some TinyCylon kits, this is how small the LEDS are

In the meantime, here are some more LEDS that will be used for the RoL on the Xbox 360 RF board

The wiring so far. Looks a mess but it will get tidied up. Takes a lot of heat to get the cables to weld onto the Xbox pins. Also found the 3.3v

The "Kitt" lights are still on battery at the moment so are out of sync. They should be normal on the 3.3 source.

Put the design on a good chassis. Might cut this out later today if the weather stays reasonable.

I got the case cut and sanded. Unfortunately the drill bit I used was slightly bent, meaning the rings were a few millimeters off center.

The wiring needs to be done again as the motherboard is a too tight for comfort in the metal chassis. I'll be starting that after the first coat of spray paint goes on.

Day 7:

LEDs have caused blind spots in my left eye, I don't think I can go on..... didn't expect them to be THAT bright, LED tracers are off track by 1 LED per minute, E-mail will be sent to seller regarding the micro chip..... Re-wiring is like a charm. Will take photos after dinner.

Hurrah!

I also completed the CoD Black Ops II campaign.

So I've managed to wire pretty much everything up now. I might have to consider switches at a later point as the LEDs are quite bright.

It looks a mess, but at least it works. :p

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b366/Cougie/New%20Xbox%20360/20121203_200953.jpg

This is the under side now, it looks good and tidy, might even stay that way. I'm moving the eject and sync moment switch, I'll be leaving the current ones there and just add my own else where by adding cables to the + and -, effectively making the switch parallel with another.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b366/Cougie/New%20Xbox%20360/20121203_201343.jpg

And here is the motherboard sitting back in the metal chassis. I tidied up the cables too, so from left to right we have the 3.3v with the yellow cable for the LED tracers, the next 2 to the right are the eject and sync, and the final 3 on the right are all 12v, which will run the remainder of the LEDs and the 3 60mm fans.

Hi, a bit late now as you have done it all, but some of the wires are looking a lot bigger than needed, making soldered connections difficult and chunky.

A little tip for next time if you don't have an electronics outlet nearby such as Maplin or similar to buy finer cables, obtain a standard telephone type RJ45 four cored cable, they are cheap enough, not the ethernet 8 core and pin type, that stuff is too fine. Strip off the outer sheath of the four core RJ45 after chopping off the plugs and you will find some nice thin insulated wire inside. It is just the ticket for LED connections as the current is so low as to not be a problem.

Thanks for the reply, Nev! The ones in the photo are indeed far too chunky, they are rasing the board so it doesn't fit in the chassis correctly, especially the 4pin molex.

I haven't worked on it much lately as Christmas is coming up and work is busy.

Here is some of the paintwork at the moment, a few layers then then sanded a little.

I haven't posted for a while, but I'm making some progress.

As the weather isn't so good for painting, and one can is blocked so I need a new one. I've figured I will put it together to make sure it all fits and works, and so forth!

Here is part of the upper casing at the moment.

Hoping the rest will fit together with no further adjustments. Fingers crossed.
