sphinxy Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 I was looking on deal sites, and found this from a long way back, would it still work if I installed over windows 7? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00005RG56/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B00005RG56&linkCode=as2&tag=.hotukdeals-21 Quote
Starbuck Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 (edited) would it still work if I installed over windows 7? Why would you want to install XP over Win7 ?? XP is ancient now and support will stop very soon. Or did you mean to install XP as well as Win7 (creating a dual boot) ? You would need to create a 2nd partition for this. But installing XP after Win7 would alter the boot manager for Win7 .... meaning that Win7 wouldn't have an option to boot to unless the boot manager is repaired. The reason why is XP will install it's own (older) version, and XP's boot manager can not boot to win 7. Repairing using the Win 7 disc will re-install Win7's boot manager, which can start XP. Then you would be able to select which OS to boot to each time. Edited November 27, 2012 by Starbuck Quote Member of:UNITE
KenB Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 You could also find that there are no XP drivers for some of the hardware on the existing Win 7 system.
