At present sat on daughters PC which for the last 2 months has had no audio .speakers are inbuilt .have attempted repair via control panel but still no go...would appreciate any advice and steps to follow to reinstate..thanks

Hi Caskin good to see you again.

Can you let us know the make and model of the computer, by your description I am assuming a laptop, can you clarify that also please.

First off though is a look in device manager, click on and open the run box, then copy and paste this into the text bar,

 

devmgmt.msc

 

Then click OK.

When it opens, scroll down the list to "Sound, Video and Game controllers, click the arrow on the left to expand it and are there any red or yellow marks?

It should also tell you the sound system installed, for example Realtek AC97, or Realtek High Definition Audio. Or it may be one of the other systems that have been used in the past.

Hi thanks for reply......its not a lap top ,tower desk,I did check device manager no yellow or red marks....sound system is Realtek AC97  ,everything checks out ,I get the feeling something is not turned on??I am now home just waiting for daughter to catch up with PC make.....

Hi Caskin I take it by the sound been built in you mean speakers built in to the monitor , have you checked to see if there muted on the screen itself and have you tried a set of headphones in the audio jack both front and back of the pc
