david kyle Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Hi was looking for some help. I have a Samsung nc10 which boots to a point of signing in to xp with password then stops. Sometimes if you restart it works. It does run ok in safe mode. Not sure what is going on. Tried virus scans nothing. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance Quote
seedy21 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Hello David kyle and Welcome to FPCH :) Lets get some more information about the machine Before the fault occurred have you installed any New Software or Hardware?? Next time you use the machine instead of Safe mode try Last Known Configuration and see if you get any further with getting on to the machine. If this does'nt work lets do a Virus Scan. Instead of safe mode, select Safe mode with Networking. Please download Malwarebytes' AntiMalware. Double click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart. Restart if it tells you to. david kyle Posted December 6, 2012 Author Posted December 6, 2012 Hi thanks for the help, I have followed the advice and its running under safe mode network, downloaded the malware as suggested and scanned with nothing showing after scan so in theory clean. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. No downloads have been done prior, yhanks in advance Quote
KenB Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Hi, If you can boot up in Safe Mode do so. Start > Run ....type in .......msconfig .....Enter Put a check in the "Diagnostic Startup" box .........Apply / OK Restart the machine. Let it attempt to boot up normally. If it does boot up then we need to identify which Service or Startup Item is causing the problem. david kyle Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 Hi, Just to advise it looks like your advice seems to have paid off and the PC is booting up properly again. Fingers crossed and thanks again. Quote
KenB Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Hi the PC is booting up properly again. This - presumably - is with minimal services / startup items running. You are running in diagnostic startup - you will find that other processes don't work now. Is this the case? If it is - we need to do a bit of work locating the actual problem. :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! david kyle Posted December 8, 2012 Author Posted December 8, 2012 Hi, no it is running as normal. I did as suggested then disabled diagnostic and seems to be stable, reinstalled AntiVirus also. If more work needs to be done open to suggestions, as my limited experience showing a bit. Thanks Quote
KenB Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 it is running as normal. Odd. If you ran in diagnostic startup and this booted up OK then unchecked this and selected "Normal" without doing anything else then we should have re-introduced the problem. If it is running ok in "Normal" startup then there is nothing else to do :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
