do you think my psu is too small?

The minimum suggested Wattage for that Video Card is 400Watts.

If this is a factory build ( Dell / Acer / HP etc ) it may well be that you have a PSU around 300 Watt.

They certainly would not put over 400 Watts in a standard build.

What is the make and model number of your pc ?

hi ken,

it is not a standard pc, it was built by pcspecialist.co.uk in 2007

the psu is

power rebel

model: RB450ATX-P

so i am assuming that means it is 450w? but i don't really know.

is there anything other than psu that corses this sort of problem?

thanks

hi ken,

power rebel

I would agree with you - 450 Watts

Try running the RAM just one module at a time. ( assuming you have 2 modules )

Swap them over if the system still freezes.

yes i have 2 modules. could this be a problem even though they are brand new?

box fresh from crucial 2 weeks ago.

do you think it could have anything to do with the new ssd?

thanks

It will do no hard to try the RAM one at a time.

Yes - it has been known for RAM to be faulty right out of the box.

It is more likely to be a RAM problem than SSD

Do you have the old RAM ?

You could try that if it was OK when you took it out.

hi ken,

i did take one of the ram out and watched a 50min video, quality still not great but it didn't freeze

i will try the same module in the other slot tomorrow and check the results, then do the same with the second module

i will let you know the results.

i'm still not sure what it means because the pc didn't freeze every time but i will persue with the ram experiment.

the old ram was in a bad way when i took them out, i think they were causing all the bsod errors.

i shall report back

thanks

hi,

so i tried the modules one at a time in each slot and maxed the cpu usage on all of them,

one of them froze in one slot but not the other and the other one was fine in both.

so i have put them both back in (making sure the one that froze is in the correct slot)

when i tried both with max cpu usage it worked fine for 20mins then it just restarted the system

but it didn't freeze.

Hi

The log isn't showing anything that makes any sense to me :(

one of them froze in one slot but not the other

It looks as if the problem lies with that particular RAM module ........ or the slot itself.

The specs for your m/board are here:

http://reviews.cnet.com/motherboards/asus-p5vd2-vm-se/4507-3049_7-32658931.html

Take a look at the RAM specs:

Bus Clock ...........667 / 533 / 400 MHz

Speed ...............PC5300 / 4300 / 3200

Your first post suggests 333MHz for the RAM that you have installed.

This is actually 666MHz ( as it is Double Data ) so this seems OK.

On the module itself - does it suggest a voltage ?

Could be 1.5 / 1.65 / 1.8

You could try running Memtest on your installed RAM

You will need to leave it running for quite a few hours.
