JayCee6828 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Hi, I apologise in advance if this is the wrong place to ask this question. I use te free version of CCcleaner and it tells me I have no problems with my registry. However if you run these free scans on the internet then every one tells me I have literally hundreds of problems and I need to buy their software to eliminate them. Obviously I think they are exagerating and just wish to sell their products but my question is, could there actually be some problems I am not aware of and can anyone reccomend a good free to use registry cleaner if you consider one is necessary anyway? Thanks for any advice and I hope you all have a great Christmas and an even better new year. Quote
neill10 Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 They realy 'aint a good idea mate, they can cause you a whole cart load of probs. I've seen people compleatly s.n.a.f.u a system after useing one. Neill Quote
KenB Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Neill10 has said it in one sentence :) We don't recommend the use of registry cleaners - few tech forums will. These "pay for" scans that find dozens of problems are a scam. DO NOT use them and certainly do not pay for them to remove what they "find". I have used CCleaner before and it is good. However - I would not recommend using the registry option - it simply isn't necessary and rarely makes any difference. We often recommend TFC ( Temp File Cleaner ) click here Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! JayCee6828 Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 Thanks Ken and Neil, I think I probably thought that but it is nice to have it confirmed by people who know; so just for completeness would you recommend that I stop using the registry part of CCleaner and not worry about the registry any more? Plastic Nev Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Yes we do is the answer. In fact where you find any technical helper recommending the use of CCleaner, more often than not we will tell you not to use the registry cleaning part of it. As Ken said for general system cleaning it is very good, but the modern registry and the way Windows works with it, there is absolutely no need to clean the registry. As Neill said, folks have found the system wrecked by using registry cleaners. Nev. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. KenB Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Just to add my agreement to what Nev has said. CCleaner does a good job. There is no advantage to using the registry cleaner option. Let Windows worry about the registry :) Quote There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !! MiniToolBoxNetwork TestWireless Test
