Hi and welcome to Fee PC Help.

Could you be a little clearer about all the circumstances involved here, are you meaning security camera's at your place of work, and are you trying to access these cameras from home via remote access?

If so, is this place of work your own business or some one else's?

If it is someone elses business they will have maybe created a secure system to prevent outside tampering, you need their permission for that access.

Please explain in more detail and why you feel you need to access those security camera's, especially if not your own.

Thanks for the reply ,

Sorry yes they are my own cameras at the works address i have used the maplins dvr unit with 4 cameras , I have used an ethernet cable to the wirless router (cisco linksky) I can view the 4 cameras through the stand alone monitor and have used the software in the works computor to also monitor the cameras using the dvr's ip adress and password (this computor shares the same router) , but when i get home to acess the cameras using the same method through my laptop i cant get to view them ?

Hi, OK thanks for the clarification, when it comes to security of this nature we have to be careful.

You may need to set up a remote user connection via the router and the works computer, but I know very little about that sort of connection so I will ask one of our more experienced staff to work with you.

Hi, Nev asked me to take a look at this thread :)

I must state first of all that I have no experience of remote access to DVRs :(

When you try to access the DVR do you do this via an ip address and Port number?

http://69.31.192.22:5560 for example ?

At this point do you get the DVRs login ?

You said earlier ....

dvr's ip adress and password

From what I have read the ip address is used to locate the DVR - then there is a login-name and password.

Is this correct ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!

yes thats right but the drv has so many settings like ip type to which i have set to static also ip address and gateway and subnetmask and mac address . also server ip port default dns address and custom dns also their is the modem (wireless) to which the dvr is connected to and all the pass words that go with that ? so is it best to get a seperate server or just plug the dvr into the bt socket ?

Hi,

There isn't an option for Mac Address filtering is there ?

This could block your home machine if it is enabled.

This could be set up in the router - not sure about the DVR if this is an option with that too.

No filtering . after several hours of trying several servers the result is the same !! so i think as the unit is a stand alone i will plug the ethernet cable directly into the bt socket then see what happens ..

I am wondering if a different approach might work if you cannot get access to the camera's directly from home through the DVR unit.

What I am thinking about is to first leave the camera's connected to the works computer with that computer turned and left on.

Next is to set up remote access being allowed into that computer and set it up to allow your home computer to access it. From home you can then navigate round the works computer to find the connection to the camera's.

Is that something that may be possible?

Hi yes that is an option However I have found out that the dvr unit has to have active x loaded through the usb port to which i cannot get active x on the net as a free download without having crap with it !! has anyone got an up to date actice x I can use ?

Thank you Steve .

Hi Steve, which activeX is reccomended and where were you trying to download it from to get this included rubbish?

In most cases stuff like unwanted toolbars etc, it is just a matter of removing ticks from boxes during either download or install.

OHHH sorted although active x was installed it made the system crash !! and lock up but once i turned it off removed the usb turned it back on again we managed to get it working the ip address is the computors as so the dvr will be set to this address but using the dvr 's port . I can now access the cameras through PDvr4TWN now then their is a mobile app called secuview or somthing similar this will not work on a smart phone so I still cant access the cameras through my mobile which is not an I phone , so going to try and download the PDvr Version ...
