KenB Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Hi and welcome to ExTS given a an old IBM computer Does this computer have a CDROM Drive ? If so - pop the "backed up" CD in and then ( assuming that you have Windows as an Operating System ) ...... Start > Computer ( or My Computer ) You will see the CDROM Drive there as an icon. right click on this > explore This will show you the files and data on the drive. You can copy this to the computer hard drive if you wish. We can explain how to do this if you want us to. KenB Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 It could be that the drive has died but it is worth trying this first ... Remove the Upper and Lower Filters There is software to do this - I prefer to use the manual method. click here You can try the FixIt if you are not confident editing the registry. It is possible to get an external CD DVD Drive that plugs into the USB port if the present one is dead. Alternatively you could replace the existing one.
