My friend gave me his dated pc to try and clean/speed up. Its running on windows XP.

I have used the program ADVANCED UNINSTALLER which I use on my own pc to perform clean up tasks such as removal of temp internet files & windows temp files, startup manager, registry cleaner etc. This is usually a great program.

I used the 'registry optimiser' option to speed up the registry/pc.

The PC restarted but now wont enter windows. it hangs on a bios type screen (I have no idea with bios etc). Please see attached photo.

I have left the pc for ages hoping that it was just extremely slow due to its poor spec and would eventually progress but it doesnt appear (or sound) to be doing anything.

Please can you advise what I can do to get windows back on. This doesnt belong to me and i'm panicking !!!

I appreciate any help

Thanks

Hi and welcome to ExTS

I deleted the link to the registry software as we don't recommend using any registry cleaners at all - for the reasons you are experiencing at the moment.

Try this:

Switch on and constantly tap F8 about once per second.

You will be taken to the Advances Startup Options.

Select ... Last Known Good Configuration

Let us know how you get on with this.

Have you got a memory stick or external hard drive connected ?

It is showing up on the screen image.

If so - take this out for the time being.

As this is XP it is possible [ if the above doesn't work ] to do a Repair Install of the Operating System

To do this you need the full installation disk ( not recovery disks )

Do you have this ?

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
